Edith Larkin Obituary

A magnificent lady, mother, educator, real-estate broker, mountain climber, tennis player and grandmother passed away December 15, 2015. Long time Colorado Springs resident Edith Faye Larkin ascended Tuesday evening from Brookdale Senior Living Center.

She had lived at Brookdale at Bear Creek for several years battling a little known, rare brain disease listed as primary progressive aphasia. As was her true nature, when diagnosed, she allowed doctors and phycologists to test her mental capacities as the disease progressed hoping to learn for others why and how a cure could be found.

Edie was born in Manhattan, Kansas on August 3, 1941, grew up in Loveland, Colorado and graduated from Colorado State University as a Tri-Delt with a bachelor's degree in education. She worked in Hawaii for the Department of Defense as an English teacher for military service members. Later she returned to Colorado Springs to become a successful real-estate broker with the firm of ERA Shields. She enjoyed hiking, climbing and camping. She climbed several of Colorado 14ers, played soccer with local teams and enjoyed friendship and competition with her contemporaries of tennis. Edie will be remembered as being wickedly smart, beautiful, quick to have fun, creative and a lover of all shoes and clothes. Additionally she loved to travel, fish, golf and garden. Her quiet time was spent creating stained glass artwork with a soft spot for all things sparkly. Her spirit and panache will live on in everyone who knew her and remembers her unique giggle.

Edie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Ann Larkin and is survived by her love, James Sauer; by her one child, Cecilee and husband Richard Rogers, along with their three daughters, Olivia, Chloe and Ella of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by her two sisters, Fran Jeffords of Loveland, Colorado and Patricia Brewer of Georgetown, Texas.

For those of you who wish to remember Edie via donations, please contact Gentiva Hospice (719) 573-4166 and/or Brookdale Senior Living Center (877) 400-5296.

A private memorial service will be held this comping summer near Estes Park, Colorado. Time and location TBA.

Edie,
"Even if you've forgotten my name,
Or the nickname I always called you.
Even if you've forgotten you loved me,
I will just remember for two.

You may not know who I am,
When I bend to give you a kiss.
You might not shed a tear,
for the things that you will miss.

But I will miss every moment,
All the things we planned to do.
And I promise with all my heart,
I will always remember you."
All my Love, Jimmy

I am so sorry for the family's loss. Edie had such a beautiful spirit and was always a blessing to be with. I will always remember that smile and the spirit that went with it. Bless you Edie.
