Edith Miller Obituary

Edy Miller passed away quietly at home on October 26, 2016, surrounded by her family, after two years living with cancer. She was 83 years old, born November 16, 1932 to Amish parents Benedic and Anna Beachy, who farmed near Hartville, Ohio.

Her growing years were spent working on the farm with five sisters and six brothers. Edy joined the Mennonite church as a teenager, in large part due to her love of music and wanting to see the world. She married Floyd Miller in 1956 and had three children while Floyd went through medical school. Her hard work and love kept the family whole and healthy through tough and very poor times. In 1967, they moved to Colorado Springs to start Floyd's medical career, and lived there ever since. She was a member of Beth-El Mennonite Church for forty-nine years and devoutly followed Jesus.

Edy was a creative and adventurous woman, but most of all, she was loving. She cared deeply for her family and others, and worked hard to help people through her church and by her own hands. During her life, she taught school and did voluntary service in the medical field for two years in Reedley, California with Mennonite Central Committee. Edy managed a fair trade store helping global artisans, was president of multiple Beth-El ministry programs, and went on volunteer mission trips. She earned a BA in Psychology from UCCS in 1987.

Edy had a great passion for quilting, creating over 90 beautiful quilts that are cherished by family and friends. She handmade 680 bedrolls and comforters for the homeless in Colorado Springs and beyond. Edy enjoyed reading history and traveling with Floyd; going to Russia, Europe, Australia, and all 50 U.S. states. Her favorite sight in the world was Pikes Peak from her front window.

Preceding her in death are siblings, Jake and Mary Beachy; half brothers, Daniel Beachy, Moses Hochstetler, Enos, John and Noah Mullet; and half sisters, Lucy (Mullet) Gingerich, Ella (Beachy) Weaver and Katie Sommers.

Edy leaves behind her husband of sixty years, Dr. Floyd Miller; three children, Anthony Grant, Reyna Leilani (JR) Keller , and Charles Bryan (Jodi Derstine); six grandchildren, Indigo and Seth Miller, Sterling (Rob) Oakley, Richard, Hayden and Jorden Keller; one great-grandchild, Elanor Oakley; and sisters, Fannie Hostetler and Martha Gingerich.

Memorial Service, 10:30AM, Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Beth-El Mennonite Church, 4625 Ranch Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80918.
