Edward Behringer Obituary

11/25/1931 - 11/17/2007. Ed was born in Chicago to Edward J. and Margaret Behringer on Thanksgiving Day 1931. He moved to Long Island NY and went to school in Flushing where he graduated in 1948. He worked as a mechanic until he enlisted in 1951 in the Air Force. He served in Japan where he was selected to be in the Honor Guard. He later went to Korea and served with the 98th Bombardment Wing 3511h Periodic Maintenance Squad ATC. Ed was honorably discharged March 1951. He was awarded the Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service Medal. After his service discharge Ed began a long and successful sales career, first selling Packaging for Olin Matheison Corp. becoming Regional Sales Manager on the East Coast. He then joined Sun Chemical, selling ink in their Industrial Sales Division. He was Regional Manager for the Midwest until he moved to California and became the General Printing Pink Division Regional Manager for the West Coast. In 1988 he was nominated and won the Man of the Year Gordon McQuaker Award. When he felt it was time "To lead, follow or get out of the way" he retired in 1996. He joined the Kiwanis in Las Cruces and worked for the Kiwanis Children Foundation, participating in Pancake Breakfasts and helping to organize the annual Cars for Kids show, both as a participant with his beloved 1963 Corvair Ramp side pickup, and selling tickets. When Ed became ill in 2003 the family moved to Colorado Springs, to be near daughter Susan Harris and her family, Ed was later diagnosed with PSP. There is no cure, no treatment and no medication. He spent the last two years of his life at Cedarwood Health Care Center until he passed away. He will be missed greatly by his loving family and his wife Patricia of 51 years. He was a kind and loving man, loved by his family, friends, neighbors and all of his customers in his long career. He was a man of his word, an exceptional man, and always an example of a good man. He was very special to us all. He is survived by his wife Patricia, children Mark Behringer (Elizabeth), Susan Harris (Kevin), Elizabeth Ferdina (Michael), grandchildren Hilary, Emily and Alex Harris, Bridgett Wood (Daniel), Claire Behringer, great grandchildren William and Danielle Wood, and his mother Margaret Erskine. He was predeceased in death by his brother Donald, father Edward J. and grandparents John Behringer and Margaret and Tom Ryan, and his Aunt Anna and Uncle Herman Ettlinger. May they all be united and rest in peace. A memorial service will be held at Cappadona's Family Services Funeral Home, 1020 E. Filmore, from 10:00am Saturday December 1st.
