Edward Bolger Obituary

Edward Lynn Bolger was born November 16, 1936 in Colorado Springs to Edward Lynn Bolger, Sr., and H. Mozelle Bolger, local florists. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School before serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Randolph. Following his military service, he worked at the White Sands Missile Range and later at the Martin Missile Company in Denver. Ed served one term as the Mayor of Elizabeth, Colorado, prior to moving in to Boulder in 1962. He served in the Boulder Fire Department for 24 years rising to the rank of Lieutenant prior to his retirement in 1988. He earned a Fire Science Technology Associate's certificate in 1974. He was a certified scuba diver, and he and his late wife, Jeanette, were instrumental is establishing the BFD's Rescue Dive Team. Following his retirement from the fire department, he drove handicapped children to school for the Boulder Valley School District. Married for 45 years to the late Jeannette Poole of Colorado Springs, his high-school sweetheart, Ed was the father of three children: Teri Bolger, of Eckley, Colorado; Eddie Bolger of Boulder; and Steven Bolger of Longmont. He is survived by them and his sister, Julie Bolger Davey of Duarte, California. At his memorial service on Saturday, two former fire chiefs from Boulder Fire Department, plus several current fire department members and scores of retired firemen, were in attendance. The current chief, Gil Espinosa, spoke, as did William Greer of Colorado Springs who was one of Ed's oldest friends. Julie Bolger Davey gave the eulogy. Donations may be made in his memory to the Boulder Community Hospital Cancer Patient Program.

To Ed's family - Our family has only had the pleasure of knowing Ed for a few (short) years, but in that time we came to regard him as an incredibly generous and kind and caring man. We will forever remember the big smile on his face when bringing a trunk load of gifts for our kids - Great finds that he and my Mom had found at estate and garage sales! We will always be grateful to him for the memories of trips and good times that he shared with our Mother in the last few years. May your family find peace in the knowledge that he touched so many lives with his kindness. Our thoughts are with you all.

Eddie and Terri,

I'm saddened to learn of Ed's passing. The memories of our diving, Lake MacConnohey, the happy times of us as "young professionals" bring tears and smiles. Ed was a kind and gentle man who made this earth a better place because of his presence and what he leaves behind. I regret that we lost touch over the years, but I look forward to seeing him and many others of our generation in the next life. I pray your memories of Dad bring smiles to you. I shall always remember him with warmth in my heart. Blessings to you. Brad Leach
