Edward Cummings Obituary

March 1, 1938
April 24, 2021
Edward William Cummings, age 83, passed away April 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.
Born March 1, 1938, he was the eldest child of Edward J Cummings and Marie (Maloney) Cummings of Bay Shore, NY on Long Island.
Ed grew up in Bellport, NY and graduated in 1955 from Seton Hall High School in Patchogue. He entered the United States Air Force on January 31, 1956, retiring January 1, 1977 as a Master Seargant at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO. During his career as a photographer in the Air Force, Ed served at a variety of bases in the European Theatre, his favorite being Aviano, Air Base at the foot of the Italian Alps. He served in Okinawa and completed two tours in Vietnam, working in MACV/SOG during these tours. He was also stationed at several US Bases including two tours at the US Air Force Academy.
He met and married his wife of nearly 50 years at the US Air Force Academy. They were married in Honolulu, HI on October 18, 1971.
Upon his retirement he completed his BS in Accounting at the University of Southern Colorado, Pueblo. He was employed by the State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado Lottery, and The University of Colorado Office of Grants and Contracts. He retired in 2003.
During retirement he was able to enjoy his passion for golf, playing multiple times a week, but loved sports in general. His other interests included music and the arts, reading, history, and he became an expert genealogist. Ed's primary passion was his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved any activity his children or grandchildren were involved in. He was their biggest fan!
Ed is survived by his wife LaVone (Hawk) Cummings; 2 sisters: Maureen Dennen of PA (and family) and Suzanne Aiello of NY (and family); 4 daughters, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild: Chandra (and Lynn) Lyons of Kaplan, LA; Cheryl (and Rex) Morford of Monument, CO, children Hillary (son Lucas) and Kailey; Jennifer (and John) Jankow of Greeley, CO, children Madison, Benjamin, Nicholas, and Molly; Christina (and Eric) Croatt of Greeley, CO, children Liam, Caden, Logan (deceased) and Audrey.
Visitation will take place at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, CO from 9am to 10am, with a service following. Ed will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Veterans Cemetery, in Denver, CO with full military honors. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html).
