Edward Kerwin Obituary

Edward Peter Kerwin, known as Pete, was born in Elmhurst, Illinois on 18 January 1956, to John and Judy Kerwin. The second of twelve children, he grew up in River Forest, Illinois, spending his summers in Cascade, Colorado. He graduated from Fenwick High School in 1974 and went to St John's University in Minnesota where he studied English literature.

He married Alex Lumen in 1978 and had two children. He moved to Colorado that year where he raised his two children. Colorado was to remain his home for the rest of his life.

Pete was a lover of life, physical, spiritual and intellectual. His interests ranged widely, from Karate to William Blake, Robert Graves to spaghetti westerns, Jazz music to Irish drinking songs. He was a sympathetic and deep conversationalist, witty and profound, and widely feared for his skills at Scrabble, Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit.

He had a successful career in sales. True to his Chicago nature, he was a Bears fan.

His health declined later years, and despite an incapacitating illness, he retained the wit and warmth that were characteristic of him all his life.

Pete died peacefully at his home in Colorado Springs on Friday 26th of September. He is survived by his children, Dan and Erynn; his brother David; and sisters Nora, Helen, Amy, Karen and Marian.

Still are thy pleasant voices, thy nightingales, awake;

For Death, he taketh all away, but them he cannot take.
