Edward MacGuire Obituary

Edward B. MacGuire, Sr. 84 of Colorado Springs, CO passed away on September 24, 2014

Born in New Haven, CT in 1929, Ed was the middle son of Gerald and Elizabeth MacGuire. Ed served 8 years in the US Navy Reserve and graduated from Colorado College in 1954.

Ed was married to the late Mary Jo Ahern of Sacramento, California, before marrying Carmella Hester. Together, Carmella and Ed enjoyed 41 wonderful years together. Ed dedicated the majority of his career to the publishing business, working 28 years for McGraw-Hill Book Company. He also spent time at John Wiley & Sons, West Publishing and Data Retrieval. In retirement, Ed refused to sit still and became a substitute teach for Academy School District 20, where he was fondly known as "Mr. Mac." Ed was also an active member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church.

Surviving Ed is his wife Carmella as well as their eight children (Mary Ruth Senour, Lisa Gelinas, Kathleen Bird, Thomas Hester, Kerry Hester, Edward B MacGuire, Jr., Robert MacGuire and Laura MacGuire), 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and brother James MacGuire. All will miss him terribly.

A full Catholic mass celebrating Ed's life and passage into heaven will be held at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church on October 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Ed will be laid to rest at a private family burial in San Rafael, California.

Ed was a wonderful friend to my dad and I. He was a friend to all, a wonderful catholic, and a terrific golfing buddy. He would always make time to join dad and I for any kind of an outing, even if it was just a beer. After my dad passed, he continued to be one of my best buddies. Loved him!!

The Flynn (Patricia, Edward, Patrick) and Wagner (Sharon and her four children) families are so grateful for the golf dates, and kindness shown by Ed for our mother Edna, after our dad Lou passed. Ed was a our dad's best buddy, and Ed was a rock around which our family rallied when Lou and Edna passed. We have made a donation, in Ed's name to the St. Jude Children's Hospital. We are thinking of Ed's family at this time when we celebrate his life that was full of kindness.

Carmie, I am so terribly sorry for the loss of Ed. I know how difficult his absence will be. I hope you find comfort in knowing how much others of us will miss him also. I was truly blessed to have served with him on various committees since the inception of St. Gabriel's. We also managed to have some great laughs at many meetings!
My children Stefan and Adrian will always remember "Mr. Mac" from his subbing days at Rockrimmon Elementary School. They still remember his "Mac Attacks" when Ed would shake hands with them and roll their knuckles!
Gary and I hope that you will call on us if there is anything at all that you need. Our phone number is 247-8144.
You and all of your family are in our prayers.
