Please mourn the passing and celebrate the life Edward "John" Ryan, age 84, died May 20, 2024 after battling COPD and Alzheimer's Disease. John died at home with his only son Aaron Ryan, Aaron's wife Alicia, and his beloved black dog Coe at his side.
John was raised in a brownstone in downtown St. Louis, MO, by Dolores Ryan, his mother, alongside his cousin David.
As a young man, John loved JFK. When JFK challenged us to "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," John joined the Navy. He often recounted his adventures at sea.
John left the Navy to marry the love of his life, his wife Noel and were inseparable until her death in 2014. They returned to Missouri and he graduated Journalism program at Mizzou in Columbia.
Then, they relocated to Chicago, IL. John was also a talented artist and worked freelance in Chicago. His illustrations appeared in Encyclopedia Britannica. Upon the birth of his son, they relocated to Colorado.
John worked many years with Springs Transit, creating maps and marketing. After two decades, John retired to pursue his passion, weight lifting, and becoming a personal trainer at the YMCA.
John's ashes will be scattered. In lieu of flowers, please donate to KRCC or the ACLU.
