Sweet Edwards birth was a gift to us all, his life a wondrous lesson and his love felt everyday...
Baby, we love you so very much -
We know you keep reminding us of these words...
When you are sorrowful
Look again in your heart
And you shall see the truth
You are weeping for
That which has been your delight

Today (Jan. 3rd) we honored you on your birthday. Aaron brought your favorite foods from Buca. Becky bought Chianti and baked an apple pie. At the table, Aidan (2 years old) suddenly requested we all hold hands and sing "Happy Birthday" to you. My sisters called...we miss you more than our hearts can bear. We remain forever grateful for the love and wisdom you gave us all.
Happy Birthday Baby.
Love Christina

Ed and I spent 2 years together in Panama during our time in the Army. Once we met, we were pretty much inseparable. We were together on and off duty. We wrote stories and made big plans. Unfortunately, after I left the service, after some years of keeping in touch, we lost touch with each other. Eventually a couple of years ago I looked him up and we had a nice visit and wrote a few times. I learned he was working for the City of Colorado Springs and how much he enjoyed it. Ed was a good man. The type of man that most men want to be. I wish I had known he was sick, I would have come to see him. The world is a lesser place because of his passing. But Heaven has grown somewhat brighter since his arrival. I hope he and I will get together again someday. Do some more planning.

The following was read on August 15, 2005, at Edward's memorial service by Christina. She found it in his journal the evening before the service. He wrote it on July 16, 2005. Three and a half weeks later, on August 9, Edward passed peacefully in Christina’s arms. He had courageously battled pancreatic cancer for over a year. Today marks one month since Edward’s passing.
We miss you Papa.

I love you all so much. My life has evolved to a wondrous place. I know I repeat this over and over, but I am so blessed. I have been enlightened by your spirits, so strong, yet so gentle. I have been enriched by your souls. You have shared your love, you have given me respect and honored me well beyond what I am due.
Just let me say that I do not want any big to-do when I pass. Simple, simple, simple…I believe Gandhi said, “Don’t be so humble, you weren’t that great.” I really wasn’t that great. I just really wanted to be a good person. I love my family and friends so much that all I want is the best for each and every one of you. You make me who I am and who I tried to be. I speak of heroes, both men and women. Be these heroes to each other. Strive to do no harm. Take care of yourself – eat right, exercise, love, play – take time each day to share a smile, be at peace in your heart.

To the Scarbrough family especially Gabe and Chris. My condolences to you all. I know this is a difficult time, but feel comforted that Ed will never be forgotten and look at all the people he touched. I worked with Ed for a long time and we had a blast. I saw you, Gabe, grow up and recently we talked about how proud he was of you both. I am sorry I missed the funeral. I was out of town and very saddened that I couldn’t come. I had some stories I wanted to share that I believe all would appreciate.
Hang in there and know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Take care and may his spirit and memories keep you uplifted until then.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Scarbrough family. Ed was a neighbor of mine for many years, I watched his son Gabriel grow into a wonderful young man. Ed always greeted me with a warm smile. I will miss him very much. My prayers are with you, Ed. Your spirit lives on.

Uncle Charles,
It has always been hard for me to call you Ed. One of my favorite songs is Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride." I remember you playing this in Grandpa's and Grandma's garage when I was little. Everytime this song is on the radio I think of you. It always brings happy memories of you. I wish I was there to see all your glory in Christopher, Gabriel and all your grandchildren. I miss you.

I say never forget his wonderful smile. As I worked with Ed through the MEMS organization, his positive, enthusiastic and spiritual enlightment were always noticed. While we have passed Ed to a greater being, I am touched by Ed and I thank him for lessons learned...

My sincere thoughts and prayers to Ed’s family and friends. Ed was one of the most caring persons I have ever met. He gave 100%+ of himself to everything and anything that was important to him. He had a great sense of humor, worked hard and enjoyed all the pleasures in life. He leaves me with many laughs and memories of the times when we worked together in Purchasing before I moved away.

Edward, Thanks for being a good brother, especially when you became the "older" brother when I decided to quit having birthdays. You are a great legacy to the wonderful sons and granchildren who follow. You will be greatly missed by Alicia and I. Have a great time with Daddy, Mom, Dawn and Barbara (who preceded all at seven months on August 9, 1943). Love, Jackie

To the family of Ed, I’d like to extend my condolences on your loss. I had the privilege of meeting Ed through the MEMs organization in which he represented Colorado Springs. Ed was a great person bringing enthusiasm and laughter to our meetings. He always had a smile on his face and positive thoughts. The passing of a loved one is difficult. I hope the loving memories you have will bring you peace and understanding.

Uncle Ed (or Charles as I knew him) will always be remembered for his embracing smile, fun-loving attitude, and the love for his family and friends. I know Grandpa would be proud of the man he became and the legacy he left behind. With sincere love and admiration, Kevin.

Christina and family,
I am a business colleague of Ed's, and knew him through the MEMS organization that both of the utilities we work for belong to. I did not know Ed well, but I did know him to be a very outgoing, kind, and helpful person. His presence and participation in MEMS will be missed.
May God Bless you and your family in during this time, and may He bring you all peace and comfort.

We will miss Ed very much. During all of the things he went through, he always had a wonderful, sweet smile and a shine in his eyes, with a positive attitude. He was a blessing to all that new him. He's in the hands of Jesus Christ now and he is safe. You, Ed, will be remembered. May God be with all of his family in this loss.

Dear Christina,
I send this message with a heavy heart. I was so saddened to learn of Ed's passing. What a wonderful man! It was a privilege and pleasure to be his friend. It was my hope to attend tomorrow's celebration of his life, but unfortuneately that won't be the case. Christina, you know how much I think of you. You will be in my thoughts. Don't hesitate to call at any time it you need anything or just need someone to talk to. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Please give our condolences (Rosie's and mine) to Ed's family. I will always cherish the poem he wrote for me when I retired and the great ride in his Cadie to my retirement party. I will always have many fond memories of him.

To Christina and family members - you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. The earthly constraints of space and time are taken from us in our passing and we are blessed to not have these pressures any more once God takes us home. We must also be comforted that he is no longer suffering. Ed, through working at Colorado Springs Utilities, was a member of MEMS - Mutual Emergency Material Support group - that helped other Utilities throughout North America in the event of disasters - he held the position of Regional Chair for the Southwest Region. In 2004 he was the host for our National / Regional conference and did an excellent job of organizing this event. Not long after this we heard he had to take a disability leave and we were so encouraged by his return to work. His couragious attendance at this year's conference in Charleston, SC showed how he was so dedicated to his work and was so willing to help others. I am sure that all of the MEMS Members share in saying we will miss him. We all have fond memories of Ed and know that his spirit will live in and around you forever.

Uncle Ed, You were always the "hippie" of our family when I was little... Your the reason I grew my hair long, and when I seen you went short I needed that look too. Thank you for the wonderful memories I will always have and cherish of you. If I could follow just the scent of your essence, I would be a better man. Thank You!
