Edward C. Schwab passed peacefully into the loving embrace of the Lord on June 4, 2025.
Ed grew up with his sister Kay in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. After high school, he enlisted in the US Navy. He met Lori, the love of his life, during a summer job in the Poconos and knew immediately that she was the one. They married in 1963. They built a wonderful family welcoming Dan, John, Chris, and Cathy in the next few years.
As he raised his young family, Ed worked as a draftsman at Sun Oil Company in Philadelphia while taking classes at night to earn his college degree in mechanical engineering. Early in his career, Ed and Lori moved to St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and Ed worked at the Hess Oil Refinery. After wonderful memories on the island, Ed and Lori spent most of the kids' school years raising their family in Reading, Pennsylvania. When the kids graduated from high school, Ed and Lori moved to Midlothian, Virginia. Ed and Lori had a wonderful 35-year marriage before Lori went to be with the Lord. Lori is remembered every day by her family, especially during family gatherings on Hilton Head Island, a place she loved. Later, Ed moved to Colorado Springs which enabled him to attend many sporting events and activities with his grandchildren.
Ed had a distinguished career as an engineering executive in the power generation industry, culminating as VP of Engineering and Construction for Constellation Energy, based in Baltimore. During his time with Constellation, he directed a program of power plant projects (over 4,000 MW of generating capacity) across the country, with a construction value of over $1.8 Billion.
Most importantly, Ed and Lori built a family. In our home growing up, there was a sign with the inscription, "The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother." Ed was a tremendous husband and father. We pray that our lives honor the example Ed and Lori set and the treasured memories we have of them. Ed valued his Christian faith, and his family gives thanks that he is reunited with Lori in the loving arms of God.
Ed loved his role as Dad to Dan, John, Chris, and Cathy. Ed and Lori's home was a warm, joyful place that welcomed many friends. If you were a friend of their kids, Ed and Lori loved you as well.
Ed's greatest phase was when he became Pops to his 11 grandchildren: John and Kelly's kids –Joanna (James), Drew, Marita, Clay, Bethlehem (Yared), Johnny, Abner and Peneal; Cathy and Shawn's son – Brandon; and Dan and Amy's daughters – Brennan and Jenna. Ed recently became a great-grandfather when Joanna and James welcomed Harrison. Ed's grandchildren adored their Pops, and Harrison will grow up hearing many stories of our Pops! Ed is lovingly remembered by his sister, Kay Sachs, his children, his grandchildren, and his extended family and friends. The Schwab family would like to sincerely thank Brookdale Briargate and Bloom Hospice for their loving support during Ed's final year. Thank you for the love and care you showed him and the joy you gave him.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 6455 Brook Park Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a toast to Ed (he loved his amber ale) or share a dessert with your loved ones. Dad/Pops loved the best things in life – family, celebration, and joy.
"If you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds' worth of distance run, yours is the Earth and everything that's in it. And – which is more - you'll be a man, my son!" – If, by Rudyard Kipling.
Rest well, Dad/Pops. We love you deeply and are forever grateful to you.
