Edward Charles Thiel, 78, died on December 23, 2021 in Beaumont, Texas. Ed was born on July 2nd, 1943 in Denver, Colorado to Virginia Frasier Thiel and George Henry Thiel. Ed worked as a pipefitter for many years and for America West Airlines. He moved with his family to Colorado Springs in 1979 and those are the memories shared here. Ed was a flawed man who struggled with mental health and alcoholism for most of his life. Ed did a disappearing act in the mid 1990's only having sporadic contact with his children for the remainder of his life. Ed popped up in Phoenix, Santa Fe, Aurora, Chicago, back in Colorado Springs and finally in Texas. Anyone who knew Ed, knew that he had a fondness for money. He liked to spend it and he always wanted more. Ed would get a paycheck and it would be gone by the end of the day. As children, this would be exciting and fun, but Ed hurt a lot of people over the years and burned many bridges.

Prior to his disappearing act, Ed enjoyed watching David and Elisa play sports. In fact, he coached both of their soccer teams during their teen years. Ed loved food and he loved to cook. On Sunday mornings, he would wake up early and go buy the biggest cinnamon rolls he could find and come back and cook omelets for everyone. Ed could be charming and incredibly fun. He showed enthusiasm about hiking up Camelback Mountain in Arizona and flying to San Francisco just for the day. Ed and David shared a passion for fishing and they often went up to the mountains on day trips. Ed was able to meet two of his grandchildren on one occasion and he truly seemed happy to be a grandfather.

Ed was always looking for the next best thing or trying to invent something that would make him a millionaire. He could never really settle down and he was always searching for something more. It is mostly unknown what Ed did during the last several years of his life, but we hope he found some happiness and peace.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents. Ed has a sister, Sandy and a brother, Richard.

Ed is survived by his children, David (Alexandra) Thiel and Elisa (Eric) Beyer and their mother, MaryKay (Gary) Parsons. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Annastacia, Milo, and Jack. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Thinking of you all often. Some turbulent times with your father yet, I´m so happy that he provided you two to the world. That was a gift to many. Deep appreciation for our longtime friendship.

Best wishes to the entire family. May you all find peace with his passing.

David and Elisa and families-

I was so sorry to read about your dad's passing and also about the turn his life took after the period that I knew you all (or maybe concurrently). I have nothing but good memories of having him as a soccer coach in the early to mid eighties from my 14 year old viewpoint. I will always appreciate the time he devoted to our teams and effort that it probably took to put up with teenagers. You are in my thoughts during this time and I hope you can look back at some good memories as well.

Take care,
