Eleanor Anderson Obituary

Eleanor Margerite (Shager) Anderson, age 91, of Council Bluffs, passed away into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the 17th day of January 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor was a former resident of Colorado Springs when her late husband, Philip was an Area Minister for the American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountain Region. Born March 9, 1915 in Eau Claire, WI, Eleanor spent most of her youth in Faribault, MN. She graduated as an R.N. from Eitel Hospital Nursing School in Minneapolis in 1937. Eleanor met and fell in love with the love of her life, the Rev. Philip R. Anderson, while living and attending nursing school. They were married August 28, 1938. Eleanor lived a life marked by humor, warmth, and compassion. She not only worked as an R.N. but also worked on and led many humanitarian organizations within the American Baptist Association. Her love for the Lord was demonstrated by the example of her life time and time again to all she met. Eleanor considered her family, whom she loved dearly, her crowning achievement. Her parents, Emil and Clara Shager, brother Ronald, sister Delores, husband Philip, and daughter-in-law, Linda Anderson, precede her in death. She is survived by son David Anderson (Topeka, KS), daughters Phyllis Porter (Council Bluffs) and Janet Booth (Olathe, KS), son-in-law Jerry Booth, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The life Eleanor lived was one of simplistic elegance and grace. Everyone who knew her will miss her warm, inviting smile. Nevertheless, we all rejoice at the new life she is beginning.
