Eleanor Metzger Obituary

1912-2006 - A memorial service will be held for Eleanor Metzger at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 9 at Cheyenne Place, 945 Tenderfoot Hill Road in the Fireside Room. It will be officiated by Dr. James D. Chapman of the Broadmoor Community Church Eleanor was born June 8, 1912 in Salt Lake City but moved to Denver when she was 3 years old and considered Denver "home". She graduated from South High School and The University of Denver. She worked with her father until her marriage in 1937 to Dr.Arthur B. Metzger, a Denver dentist and college sweetheart. After a 5- year absence from the Denver area during World War II while her husband taught at the War College in Carlisle, PA, she returned to Denver to resume her role as an extraordinary wife, mother and homemaker. Mrs. Metzger enjoyed needlework, sewing and various arts and crafts. She was a long -time member of PEO and recently was honored by her sorority, Pi Beta Phi, with a 75-year certificate. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband in 2000 and is survived by daughter, Sally: granddaughters, Carrie Peck and Lori Leighton; and great-grandsons, Kyle and Kevin Peck and Bryce Leighton. Arrangements are entrusted to the Shrine of Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to The National Ovarian Coalition, 1-888-682-7426 in her name.
