Elfrieda Renoux Obituary

August 18, 1932 - January 26, 2008. Elfrieda S. Renoux died 26 January 2008, after a four year struggle with multiple myeloma. She was born 18 August 1932 at Kodetschlag 5, Kreis Kaplitz, Czechoslovakia, to Josef Hohenschlager and Theresia Steinbichl. She was raised by her grandparents, Johann Steinbichl and Anna (Duscher) Steinbichl. They were Sudeten-Deutsche blacksmiths and farmers. In 1946, all of the Sudeten- Deutsche were deported from their homeland to their forefathers' country. Frieda's family settled near Murnau, Bavaria, where she attended a dressmaker school. On 18 Dec. 1957, she married Leonard G. Renoux, in Kitzingen am Main, Germany, making her a soldier's wife. She raised their four children and they went with Len on his various moves for the next twenty one years. She became an American citizen on 6 September 1961, in GA. Frieda not only made many of the family clothes; many times, her sewing brought in income to allow more comfort. She also worked in fabric stores and gift shops. One of her many proud achievements was teaching sewing classes for Colorado Springs Park & Recreation and various fabric shops. Frieda was a resident of Colorado Springs since 1966, joining the German-American Culture Society at that time. When the family settled down in the city in 1978, she joined the Germania Club, where she has enjoyed the camaraderie of her friends. She also enjoyed camping and travel. Frieda was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, a half-brother (Hans) and son, Viktor. She is survived by four half-sisters and a half-brother. She is also survived by her husband and three daughters: Elfriede Suzy Donato, Linda Julia Clear and Sally Ann Renoux; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Frieda chose immediate cremation, some of the cremains to be buried next to Viktor, in Evergreen Cemetery; there will be no interment ceremony. A Gathering of Celebration will be held Friday, February 15, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Arrangements are being made by the Shrine of Remembrance. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Pikes Peak Hospice.
