Elizabeth Chalker Obituary

January 5, 1940-May 9, 2008 Elizabeth Edwina "Dina" Chalker passed away after a long battle with breast- cancer, in her home on Friday night, May 9, 2008. She was surrounded by her family. She is now with the Lord. She is survived by her brother and his wife Jim and Marie Moore of Albuquerque, NM, two daughters, Deborah Ortega of Colorado Springs, and Leah Laurence and her husband Joe of Colorado Springs, one son Mike Ortega and his wife Julia of Albuquerque, NM. She has 8 grandchildren, Desiree Ortega, Amber Ortega, Amanda Ortega, Dillon LoSasso, Joseph Searcy- Ortega, Haley Laurence, Jarod Searcy-Ortega, Kohl Hughson and one great-grandson Dayton Ortega. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amado Ortega, and her parents Harvey and Josie Moore. Dina was born in Taos, New Mexico and was a graduate of Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM. She received her Master's degree from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. She retired from School District 11 in Colorado Springs where she taught at Thomas B. Doherty High School for 24 years. She loved to travel, go to the movies and was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan. A Vigil will be held on Sunday, May 18th from 6-8pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Memorial Services will be held 10am, Monday, May19th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3122 Poinsetta Dr. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer or to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Arrangements are by Holy Trinity Catholic Church (719-633-2132) and The Springs Funeral Services in Colorado Springs (719-328-1793).

Our many gatherings in our younger years gave us many fond memories of Dina. In our later years we were not able to get together but it was a joy to hear her voice and talk about our family and our struggle with breast cancer. She will always be in our hearts. Wayne and I give our deepest sympathy to Dina's family.
