Elizabeth Ann Besinger Fal, 82, of Monument, CO, died peacefully on August 27, 2025. Elizabeth was born on December 6, 1942 in Buchanan, MI, to John and Marjorie Besinger.
She is survived by her husband John William Fal; her four children, Michael Stanley Fal in Aurora, CO, Timothy John Fal in Palmer Lake, CO, Jeffrey Robert Fal in Denver, CO, and Julia Elizabeth Furrer in Palmer Lake, CO; her four grandchildren; and her three siblings, Mary Josephine Alexander in Columbus, OH, Robert Besinger in Edina, MN, and Thomas Besinger in Chillicothe, OH.
In 1956 her family moved to Marion, OH, where she attended Marion Catholic High School, graduating in 1960. She attended the College of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus, OH, and in 1964, with a degree in English and a teaching certificate, she moved to Royal Oak, MI, for her first elementary teaching job. In 1966, she was accepted into the Department of Defense (DODS) school system and was assigned to Misawa AB Japan again teaching elementary. DODS transferred her to Bitburg Air Base, Germany in 1969 where she met John, who was assigned to the 525th Fighter Squadron.
She and John were married in a church ceremony on November 7, 1970 at Bitburg Air Base and lived in Metterich, a small German village in the Eiffel mountains near the air base. Michael was born while they were at Bitburg. In 1974 they were transferred to Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, NM, where Timothy and Jeffrey were born. In 1978 they were transferred to Holloman Air Force Base, Alamogordo, NM, and in 1981 they were moved to Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea where they adopted Julia. In 1983 they were reassigned to Maxwell Air Force Base, AL, where Julia was granted US citizenship. John retired from the Air Force in 1986, and they moved to Albuquerque, NM. After John completed graduate school at the University of New Mexico, they finally settled in Monument, CO.
She was devoted to her children and was a woman of great faith. She devoted much time to her church, serving as a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) teacher, parish council member, director of religious education and Eucharistic minister for the home-bound at the various parishes where she was a member. She also volunteered at the various elementary schools her children attended. She was funny and talkative, possessed a great sense of humor, and had a gift for putting others at ease. She was a helper. In a period of about 15 years, she welcomed USAF Academy cadets into her home for a place to go on the weekends. Several of them remained in contact and are like family. She and John enjoyed traveling to many places in their RV. She was a great Air Force Academy athletic supporter, especially football and basketball. She was also passionate about Notre Dame football and her many dogs.
The many who loved her will celebrate her with a viewing at Swan Law Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 17th at Swan-Law Funeral Directors from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, and a mass at St. Peter Catholic Church in Monument at 10:00 am September 18th .
