On December 18th, 2021, Elizabeth Irene "Percy" Mooney was called home by God at the young age of 25.



Elizabeth was born in Banbury, England, in September, 1996. Raised in a military family, she also lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tampa, Florida, and Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, before moving to Colorado Springs in 2005. She also lived for a short time in Princeton, New Jersey. In Colorado Springs she attended Foothills Elementary School, Eagle View Middle School, and Air Academy High School from which she graduated in May 2015.



Elizabeth was a beautiful soul with a beautiful spirit, known for lighting up a room with her good-natured presence. It was hard not to smile and laugh when Elizabeth was there. She was a kind and gentle soul who enjoyed nature, music, travel, family, and friendships. Reflecting her love of God's creation, she was studying Environmental Science as a student at Colorado University Boulder. She was especially fond of Spruce Mountain, Garden of the Gods, Ute Valley Park, Estes Park, the Flatirons, and Honeymoon Island, Florida, where she enjoyed walking, hiking, and beachcombing. She took joy in the celestial beauty of every single sunrise and sunset, and regularly turned out for eclipses and meteor showers. She enjoyed a wide variety of music to include ABBA, Lady Gaga, the Beatles, Justin Bieber, and many more. She traveled extensively with her father, and especially enjoyed her trip to Japan from where her favorite characters Hello Kitty and Totoro hailed, and her trips to New England to visit her many relatives there as well as the King Kone ice cream shop in Merrimack, New Hampshire. Her travels also took her to Korea, British Columbia, Alberta, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Maryland, New York, California, and many other states.



Elizabeth leaves behind many loved ones including her loving father Colonel Frederick W. Mooney and sister Teresa R. Mooney of Colorado Springs; mother Mary E. Mooney and brother Alexander P. Mooney, of Hudson, Florida; stepmother Svitlana V. Mooney, stepsister Anna M. Zapel, and stepbrother Thomas A. Zapel, also of Colorado Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends around the country. She was also beloved by her grandparents Joan R. Mooney and the late Eugene E. Mooney of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and Jane M. Utterback and the late Lawrence C. Utterback of Silver Spring and Rockville, Maryland.



Elizabeth was baptized in 1996 at Royal Air Force Base Croughton, England, in the presence of her godparents—her aunt Diane V. Porcaro and her late uncle Alfred R. Porcaro Jr. of Melrose, Massachusetts. In 2012 she confirmed her Roman Catholic faith at St Francis of Assisi parish in Colorado Springs, sponsored by her sister Teresa, and selecting Saint Matilda as her confirmation name.



The Requiem Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth will take place at Saint Francis of Assisi church, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, Colorado, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 5th, 2022. Vigil will take place at the Mountain View Funeral Home, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, at 6 p.m. on the preceding day, Tuesday, January 4th. Committal of her ashes will take place at a later date.
