ELIZABETH ROOT Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Root Sept. 24, 1915 - Feb. 6, 2014 Resident of Walnut Creek Betty Root passed away peacefully at her home in Rossmoor. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to Marie and Otto Barthel. She graduated from the University of Michigan, where she met and married her husband, Bud. They moved to Oakland, California in 1943 where she became a homemaker and loving mother to her two children. Betty was a charter member of the Merritt (Summit) Hospital Volunteers. In 1972 the couple moved to Rossmoor, Walnut Creek. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Grosvenor (Bud) Root and her sister Helen Peterson of Michigan. She is survived by her son Grove Root, her daughter Barbara Lilly Graham and four grandchildren; Shannon Lilly parker, Victoria Root Sudderth, J. Daniel Lilly, Deborah Root McCommon and 8 great-grandchildren. There will be private services at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the charity of your choice.
