Ella Gore Obituary

Ella Mae Jordan Gore, 79, of Erie, Pa., peacefully made her transition to eternal rest on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at UPMC Hamot.

She was born September 18, 1934, in Sandersville, Miss., to the late Johnnie and Ruth Hales Jordan.

She was the first born of 11 siblings to this union. Ella attended Mt. Olive High school. She confessed Christ at an early age, at the Chapel Hill Methodist Church, in Sandersville.

Ella relocated to Erie in the mid-50s with her husband and children. She had been employed at Firches Bakery, OK Cleaners, and Henderson Head Start. Ella joined with the Holy Trinity COGIC and was a lifelong member. She served on the Mothers Board, the Deaconess Board and the Usher Board. She also served as past president of The Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Smith Barney Post #700 and as a Member of the Board of Directors for the JFK NATO Center. She was a liaison for the Housing Authority of Erie and a Foster Parent of Erie County. Ella was a great asset to her community.

She loved shopping, dining out, gardening, cooking for her loved ones and "driving slow" in her car. She had the gift of sharing and caring for others. Ella will be dearly missed by her family, her church family, friends and the community.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Delmarie "Skeet" Gore Walker; three sisters, Lummie Jordan Gore, Harlene Jordan Morgan and ECatherine Jordan; three brothers, Johnnie Jordan Jr., Harlon Jordan and Lee Calhoun.

Mother Ella Mae leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 60 years, Climmie Gore; a daughter, Sarah Ruth Gore Clark; a stepdaughter, Anita Rowan; grandsons, Gerald "Pooh" Walker, Jr. and Ryan Rowan; granddaughters, Tamika (Edward) Worthy, Tiffany Walker and Taheera Clark; ten great-grandchildren, all of Erie; one brother, Essie Jordan of Heidelberg, Miss.; seven sisters, Johnnie R. Keys of Jackson, Miss., Lessie (Walter) Barnes of Clarksdale, Miss., Pearlene Wright of Marks, Miss., Margaret (Matthew) Joseph of London, England, UK, Edna Phodes of Jackson, Miss., Cozette (Henry) Thillet and Merlene Jordan of Erie; special friends, Verta Bell Henderson and Barbara Jones, an uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, April 4, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Holy Trinity COGIC, 1703 Holland Street, and may attend a funeral service on Saturday, April 5th, at Second Baptist Church, 757 E. 26th St., with Rev. Dr. Allen B. Green, Pastor, officiating and Pastor Willie Harris, of Holy Trinity COGIC, eulogizing. Interment will be in Erie Cemetery. Funeralization is by Law Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Ave.

Mr. Clemmie, Sarah Ruth, Tiffany, Tamika and Jerry: The Ward Family from Bird Drive (Tammy, Danielle, Tom, Damon, Cassandra [Kim], and Brandi) offer heartfelt condolences. Miss Ella Mae was like a second Mother, lovingly watching over all of the children in the neighborhood. She kept us in line, kept our parents informed, disciplined us, cared for us, fed us, put us to work, took us on outings, taught us, and truly lived the adage that it takes a village to raise a child. Miss Ella Mae was dear to us, and she will be truly missed!

To be absence of the body is to be in the presence of Our Lord. Aunt Ella Mae, the matriarch of our family, you've given us love, faith and hope. I admire for the woman you were. Strong, assured, and independent yet kind and loving. You always kept it real. You were well respect by all. You could hang with the best of them. On earth, we all loved you but God has always loved you best. It's been a long journey, so Rest in Heaven. I will continue to pray for our family for comfort, peace and understanding.
