Elmer Gunnarson Obituary

Elmer William Gunnarson passed away on May 18, 2013 in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born on January 31, 1918 in Seattle, Washington to Alfred and Martha Gunnarson. Elmer served in the U.S. Army and spend eight months in the German POW camp Stalig 9, before being liberated. He was a member of the VFW. Elmer retired from the U.S. Post Office after 31 years. He was a Master Finish Carpenter and considered the homes he and his partner, Howard Peterson built, in and around the Seattle area, his pride and joy. Survived by his present wife, Jackie Smith Gunnarson; sons, Peter Gunnarson from Benaraby Queensland, Australia and Eric (Connie) Gunnarson from Ellensburg, Washington; 4 stepchildren: Sharran (Allan) Wetly, Ron (Sheena) Wilkinson, David Smith, Janet Kirby; 4 granddaughters; 7 grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and 1 great-great grandson. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joyce; and daughter, Laurel. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his many friends and family. Visitation will be held on Thursday May 23, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Dove Witt Mortuary.
