Elsie Worrell Obituary

Elsie, the mother of Barbara Worrell Steiner, was born in Wythe County, VA and finished high school there. That's where she met her husband, Harold Worrell, whom she married on January 22, 1939. After Harold joined the navy, Elsie took her daughter to the West Coast, where they lived in various cities, finally settling in La Jolla, CA. Elsie raised their daughter virtually alone until Harold retired from the Navy in 1958, after a 22 year career. Elsie worked at Bowers Jewelry store and taught Sunday school at the La Jolla Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing cymbidium orchids and roses. She also enjoyed cooking, and her grandchildren still remember her "white muffins" (buttermilk biscuits), strawberry pies and chocolate chip cookies. After her husband of 72 years passed away, Elsie visited her daughter and her family in Colorado Springs, CO, and remained there the rest of her life. She loved that her family was able to visit her much more often. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara, her son-in-law, Alan Steiner, her grandchildren, Chris Steiner, Allison Angulo and her husband Dave Angulo, and Andrew Steiner and his wife Hailey (Dumas). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Kylie Angulo, Grace Angulo, and Audrey Angulo. A memorial service will be held Aug. 8 at La Jolla Presbyterian Church. Donations to the church's Deacon fund, instead of flowers, would be greatly appreciated.

I was very sorry I was unable to attend the memorial for you mother at church last Wed. I was out of town. I sat behind your mother and father for several years at church and I always enjoyed talking to them.I was pleased to hear your mother moved up near you and your family after your father's death.
