My deepest condolences to the Carle family on the tragic loss of Eric. I met Eric while I was attending University, and worked for a short time as his assistant in 2015 While he and his wife Bobby were staying at their home in Blowing Rock, NC. Eric was such a kind and giving person. He had a very meaningful impact upon my life. His presence in this world will be sorely missed. So long as parents read his works to their children, Eric will live forever.

Eric Carle, a wonderful artist with a beautiful souls which comes through in every book, will be greatly missed, but never forgotten! Thank you for all the joy you've brought to my family as I've shared your books with my daughter and now young granddaughters. We're starting our own "paper bank" so the girls can carry on in your much-admired style! God bless.

Oh mothers and fathers
And children
fondly recalling the thoughtful
hours spent on laps
turning the thick soft cornered
pages of board books
that caterpillar
so sweet
collage of colors
And so hungry
Munching its way
Through leaves
And oranges
And strawberries
Counting along and the little
Child finger poking
The literal hole
Where the very hungry
caterpillar is said
to have eaten- getting so
very full
Then transforming
into a butterfly- the kaleidoscopic
colors of spread
wings. Eric Carl
made so many moments
For parents and children
In Laps
For teachers
In classrooms
And librarians
in libraries
Sharing these playful
Stories
Being there
together
telling,
looking
listening
Feeling
the wonder
Together.

It is with a heavy spirit and dampened eyes that I encounter this sad news. Eric was one of my late wife's favorite authors. She was a Special Ed teacher and used Eric's books so many times in her public school positions and in her grades 1-2 in our Hebrew School to uphold valuable life lessons. She loved the simplicity of the stories for their understandability and was enamored of the strikingly colorful artwork. Whenever one of her students came to her with a problem, she would first turn to one of Eric's books to help them cope. Zikhrono Livrakho. May Eric's work and memory be always a blessing.

Dear Mr. Carle Family,
After lunch recess, my first grade students liked to rest and to listen to a good book. Mr. Carle's books always held their attention with their vibrant colors and engaging texts. One year we were privileged to take a walking field trip to the San Gabriel Auditorium and see a production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It was all accomplished with hand puppets held by puppeteers dressed in black and working on a darkened stage. It was pure magic. The teachers were as enthralled as their students. Mr. Carle will be greatly missed.

So sorry for your loss. Our family enjoyed his books until we lost our grandson, Ethan T. Carle at 18 months. We cherish the card and picture we received from the Eric Carle website. Now, we will continue his legacy as we were recently blessed with a granddaughter, Emmeline Carle on May 3, 2021. Can't wait to read his books to her.

I will truly miss my Uncle he was a fine man. I remember when he was just starting out. He came to visit my family. Fond memories sitting on his lap and giving me drawing tips. Later in his life we shared many long phone calls. He was a kindered spirit. I love you uncle Eric Rest In Peace.

I met Mr. Carle through an event to do with books and literature shy of a few years ago. Ultimately, I didn't know him 'deeply', so much as I got to have a few conversations with him as an artist. He inspired both me, as well as my childhood friend, River Mae Privitera. He was a great artist, writer, designer and soul. He had the most welcoming smile, and one of the best personalities I have ever witnessed. It is with a saddened heart that I was informed of his passing, and I hope that the family may know just how much of an inspiration he was and still remains to some of us younger artists. It has been an immense honor to get to meet him, even if briefly.

Thank you for everything you've done, and my condolences to the family, loved ones, as well as friends.

There are no words to describe how sad I am to hear of your passing. I loved you as an author of books when I was a young girl and now my autistic son of 4 years old has loved your books since he has been here. His room is decorated with The Very Hungry Caterpillar and he has multiple copies of your books. He has even memorized The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Japanese language. I want to thank you for your inspiration to kids all around the world and especially for my son. Your legacy will surely live on through your books. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being the best author out there ❤ We will never forget you!

I have been a Preschool teacher for over 40 years and reading his books to countless numbers of children has been a delight. Seeing the children respond to the bright colors in the pictures, learning to repeat the verses back to you was a delight. Lots of children learned there colors from Brown Bear,Brown Bear What Do You See. And from The Very Hungry Caterpillar they learned to taste different foods, and counting, and about the wonders of insects. Teachers loved his books!!.Sorry to hear about his death. May he rest in peace, knowing that his words in children's books will be read to children all over the world for generations to come.
