Ernest Banks Obituary

Ernest Lee Banks, age 66, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on January 13,  2006 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Ernest was born on August 8, 1939 in Wichita, Kansas, a son of the late, Riley and Annie Mae (Hamilton) Banks. Ernest has lived in Colorado Springs for 33 years. He retired from the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam and he also was retired from Digital Corp. He graduated from North High in Wichita, Kansas. He was a former member of the American Legion in Fountain and was a member of the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Fountain. Mr. Banks is survived by his wife, Barbara Harris Cockrell Banks; five children: Tonja Juanese Hyson-Banks, Giovonnia Hyson-Banks, Tiania Hyson-Banks, Entoncio Hyson-Banks, Ronald Hyson-Banks all of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother, Russell (Bernice) Banks of Wichita, Kansas; sisters: Mary Luetta Russell of Wichita, Kansas, Phyllis Lorraine Jackson of  Wichita, Kansas, Christina Barnes of Wichita, Kansas and Thessa Line Green of Realto, California, Barbara Jean "Hafeezah" (Jesse)  Perkins of Los Angeles, California, Geraldine Frances Banks of Wichita, Kansas, Terry Banks of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law, Melinda Banks; two grandchildren: Divine Light Cockrell and Demetrius Lashan Smith; one great-grandchild, Dimir Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Ernest was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Cockrell; brothers: Riley Banks, Jr., George Banks, Max Domingo Banks; and a sister, Ollie Mae McClinton. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2006 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home  1830 E. Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 20, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 5485 Alegre Circle, Colorado Springs, CO. Interment will be on Monday, January 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
