Ernest Cobb Obituary
Ernest Cobb, 75, passed away 10/6/2011 after a courageous struggle against cancer. Born in Oakland, California 03/18/1936, Ernest grew-up in Visalia, California, graduated from Whitney HS and College of Sequoias then began a 43 year career as a United States Geological Survey (USGS) Hydrologist. He married his childhood sweetheart, Bernice McCarter (1957) and moved to Sacramento, California with USGS. Upon completing his BS degree (University of California), he moved with USGS to Menlo Park, CA and then Northern Virginia. Later, Ernest completed his MS degree (1967, Colorado State University, Fort Collin, Phi Kappa Phi) before returning to Northern Virginia USGS HQ. Ernest transferred to Albuquerque, NM as Assistant District Chief (1970) and appointed Colonel Aid-de-Camp to the New Mexico Governor. He moved to Puerto Rico as Caribbean District Chief (1974), returning to USGS Headquarters in Reston, VA (1978). USGS awarded Ernest the Meritorious Service award (1992). Serving as United States delegate to ISO, Ernest traveled to many countries before retiring (1994) and moving to Woodland Park, Colorado (2000). Ernest enjoyed traveling roads less traveled. He helped people in need and actively assisted "In The Lord's Service," transporting people to doctor appointments. He traveled to help Haiti before it became popular. Ernest enjoyed time with family and friends, hiking, reading and Bible studies. He attended "New Covenant Christian Fellowship" (NCCF) in Woodland Park, and was an "American Society of Engineers" member. Ernest is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernice; son Dale Cobb; daughters Rhonda Grigg and Hope Ann; Sisters: Lois Salapka, Gail Chehock, and Lyn Hanush: brother Lee Cobb; grandchildren: Daniel, Jon, and Bethany Cobb, Peter, Rebecca, Margaret and Amy Grigg, and Shawn Anderson.
