ERNEST W. NAGEL
1927 - 2018
Ernest W. Nagel, passed away August 21st in Colorado Springs. He was born near Rockford, Illinois in the town of Davis Junction. He was the son of a German immigrant, who worked as a railroad engineer. After graduating from high school, Ernest worked at Camp Grant near Rockford and volunteered for the Coast Guard, during World War II. After the war he returned to Rockford and worked in the construction trades.
On June 7, 1947, he married Reta Faye Nagel and they just celebrated an amazing 71 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Faye, Ernest is survived by sons, Greg (Carol) of Colorado Springs and Clint (Ann) of Bozeman, Montana; four grandchildren, Jesse, Vanessa, Cory and Shane and 6 great-grandchildren, Raenes, Jixx, Violet, Jo Jo, Dominic and Brian.
Ernest was a lifetime member of the Carpenter's Local 515. For 50 years he was involved in completing notable projects such as Compassion International Headquarters, additions to the current Summit House atop Pikes Peak, and for contractors such as Phipps, Hughes, Fletemeyer, and G.E. Johnson Construction. In addition to commercial work, he constructed homes for himself and his family. During his life, he purchased only one home, then bought land and built the others.
In his 91 year lifetime, he treasured all things family, the flag, cars and trucks, baseball and pets.
Ernest and Faye were members for many years at Mountain View Church of Christ. Memorial gifts may be made to the Mountain View Church of Christ Building Fund or Missionary Fund.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 27th at Evergreen Funeral Home.
