Ernest Rodriguez Obituary

Ernest “Rod� Rodriguez, age 86, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1984 and formerly of Leavenworth, Kansas passed away on Monday, August 17, 2009 at the Life Care Center. He was a retired Commissary Logistics Officer at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Ernest was born on November 7, 1922 in Atchison, Kansas to Jesus and Inez Rodriguez. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army under General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He was awarded four bronze stars among numerous other medals. Ernie was a man of integrity who attended Mass faithfully. He loved to dance to the music of his era and also enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors. He will best be remembered for his tenacity, strength and kindness. Ernest is survived by his children: Linda (husband, Donald) Kvasnicka of Steger, Illinois; Tom Rodriguez of Littleton, Colorado; JoAnn (husband, Joseph) Noel of Leavenworth, Kansas and Annette Rodriguez of Leavenworth. He is also survived by his brothers: Lolo (wife, Socorro) Rodriguez of St. Joseph, Missouri; Sal (wife, Helen) Rodriguez of St. Joseph; Richard (wife, Barbara) Rodriguez of Kansas City, Missouri; Raymond (wife, Loretta) Rodriguez of Colorado Springs and his sister: Esther List of Kansas City, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Sarah Macias and Rita Gourneau. He leaves 5 grandchildren: Donald, Jolene, Lacey, Michael and Michael Shane; 9 great - grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at the Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 2:00 pm on Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral, 22 W. Kiowa, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Entombment with honors will follow at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven. Memorials in his name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301 Cincinnati, Ohio 45250, Attention: Gift Processing.
