Esther Jones Obituary
Asheville - Esther Elizabeth Jones, 94, of Asheville, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Brooks-Howell Home. A native of Lumber City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. William and Christina Shumaker Jones. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Phyllis Isabel Jones, Eileen Rankin, Sara Ellen Potter and Sheila Chatlos and two brothers, Walter Robert Jones and William Griffith Jones.
Miss Jones graduated from high school in 1940 in Newport, PA. She graduated from Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, Pennsylvania State with a Master's in Education and from Scaritt College in 1958. Her teaching career began in the mid 1940's and continued to the late 1960's. She became a Deaconess with the United Methodist Church in 1958.
She retired to Brooks-Howell Home in Asheville, NC in 1988 and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Her survivors include many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Pisgah View Memorial Park, Candler, NC.
