Mrs. Esther K. Longmire passed away in Colorado Springs on May 7, 2022 after a brief illness. Mrs. Longmire was born in Evergreen, AL on September 22, 1928, to Annie E. Berry (Bedgood) and Kinzell Berry.
Mrs. Longmire traveled the world as an Army wife before settling in Colorado Springs. She was a trained cosmetologist and retired as a cabinetmaker from Riviera Cabinets, a second career that she enjoyed immensely.
Mrs. Longmire loved the Lord and was a long-time member of St. John's Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. A choir member, she loved to sing, to laugh and to read her Bible. Her family nickname, Sweetnin', was a reflection of her personality and cheerful spirit. A visit with Sweetnin' was a blessed event. Her love language was food and she could often be found preparing home-cooked meals for others sitting at the kitchen table eating, drinking and enjoying her company.
Mrs. Longmire is survived by her siblings, Teagist Berry of Pensacola, FL and Mary Ann McManus and Erma Berry of St. Louis, MO. Mrs. Longmire was preceded in death by her husband, 1st SGT James E. Longmire, USA Retired and her son, MSGT Shelvin D. Longmire, USAF Retired of Washington, DC. Forever missed, she leaves behind her children, Linda Taylor (James) of Apollo Beach, FL; Vida Longmire of Colorado Springs, CO; Gloria Plear (Dennis) of Colorado Springs, CO; Anthony Longmire (Laura) of Pueblo West, CO; and Andrea Lee of Colorado Springs; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Longmire is also survived by her extended Taylor family of over 50 years, many close relatives, and a host of very beloved and special friends that are too numerous to mention.
Funeral services will be held at St. John's Baptist Church on Saturday, May 28th at 1 p.m.
