Ethel Hess Obituary

Ethel Irene Patch died Saturday, August 1, 2015. She was born October 24, 1923 on a ranch near Silt, CO. Her parents were Andy and Mamie Patch. She took great joy in telling us that we would have been better people if would have had to get up at 4 AM to milk the cow, gather the eggs, etc, like she did.

She married Jim Hess, on February 29, 1948, in Montrose, CO. They raised two daughters Lois and Shirley. The small family moved from one mining town to another until they retired in 1978. Ethel always made a good home and cooked wonderful meals for her family. Her granddaughters remember the wonderful homemade noodles that Ethel always made for them. After they retired they lived in Salida, CO for over 30 years.

She loved people and had many friends, who often stopped by to visit. After the death of her husband, Jim, she moved to Colorado Springs to live with her daughter and her husband, Lois and Richard Martinez. Ethel and Richard loved to buy lottery tickets and in her later days, that became the highlight of her day.

She is survived by her daughters, Lois (Richard) Martinez, of Colorado Springs and Shirley(Harry) Beres, of Grand Junction.

She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hess, her only grandson, Jim Beres. Her parents, and her brother Alfred Patch.

Funeral Services will be held at Cappadona Funeral home 1020 E Fillmore St at 10:00 AM. Friday August 7th, 2015

Her ashes will be taken to Salida immediately following the service.
