Eugene Dewey Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel Eugene G. Dewey, USAF (Ret.) died peacefully at home August 19, 2014. Lt. Colonel Dewey was born on July 28, 1925 in Plattsburg, New York and spent his formative years around Syracuse. He was the son of Arthur J. Dewey and Ethel (Day) Dewey both deceased.

Eugene Dewey was married to Florence Feuille on June 3, 1954 in Texas.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Florence; daughter Deborah D. (Ford) Dewey of Monument, Colorado, daughter Arlene Van Baak of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, daughter Anne Jones of Palmer Lake, Colorado and son Grant Dewey of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Eugene is also survived by ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lieutenant Colonel Eugene G. Dewey, USAF (Ret.) joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 and served in the United States Air Force 26 years. He was pilot qualified in over a dozen military aircraft which included both fighters and bombers. For many years he was an instructor pilot and became a command pilot. Eugene (Gene) served as the 346th squadron commander operating from Guam for three tours during the Vietnam War.

After retirement, Gene worked in medical services for rural areas, commercial and residential construction and real estate sales. He continued to enjoy the beautiful Colorado outdoors by flying, skiing, camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. Other hobbies included rebuilding aircraft, building custom cabinets and green houses. Gene consistently contributed to his community through church and civic activities. He volunteered for years with the Red Cross at the USAFA Refill Pharmacy.

Memorial service followed by reception including light lunch on September 2, 2014 at 10:30 am at The Church at Woodmoor (18125 Furrow Road, Monument, CO).

Gene was my uncle. I never got to meet him. I don't think if I did I was very young at time. I am Darwin's Dewey's youngest boy marty. Sounds like he lived a pretty amazing life. I'm glad to see he got involved with the church and if he was saved I will see him again someday. Praise the Lord. My prayers are with the rest of the family forever and always
