Eugene George Simpson was born April 21, 1924 in Whittemore, Iowa. He passed away January 26, 2018 at his home in Colorado Springs surrounded by his family.
Our dad spent his childhood on a farm in Whittemore, Iowa, attended a one room elementary school and graduated from Algona High School. Dad attended Iowa State University before enlisting in the Navel Air Corp in 1941 and fought in WWII until 1945.
After returning home from the war, he met Ruthie Reilly and married her in 1951 in Algona, Iowa. Mom and Dad moved to California where Dad worked for Lockheed Aircraft. Dad got the opportunity to take a job with Farmers Insurance in Colorado Springs where he worked as a Safety Engineer until he retired.
Dad was an avid sports fan and loved the Broncos and Rockies. He was a 5K runner up into his 80s. Dancing with my mom was his passion. They started with Latin and Ballroom and then became long time members of the International Polka Club for more than 20 years.
Dad is preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters, and brother, sons-in-law Rich Paul and Nick Sholdt.
He is survived by his wife Ruth of 67 years; 3 children: Christy Paul, Jeff (Dawn) and Paula Sholdt; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild: Jody (Derek), Chase, Cameron, Sophie, Madison, Mason, Jake (Tara), Conner, Steven (Lauren), Tabithia, Ryan, Reilly, Kelsey, Brian, Krystal (Shane), Presley.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Evergreen Cemetery.
