Evelyn Feffer Obituary

Feffer
EVELYN SHERMAN FEFFER
1928 - 2020

Evelyn Sherman Feffer, 92, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on December 13, 2020.
Evelyn was born in Springfield, Illinois on May 19,1928 to Armond and Min Sherman. She attended high school at Ferry Hall in Lake Forest, IL, where she was given the moniker "Cricket" because she was everybody's best friend and confidante. Evelyn and Ralph B. Feffer, Jr. were introduced by their respective aunts. In 1948, they married and then made their home in Phoenix where they remained until their passing.
Every day of Evelyn's life was spent doing kind and unselfish acts. She came from a family of volunteers and had volunteerism running through her blood. She did so many little things: caring for family and visitors in the surgery intake area at Phoenix hospitals; taking her early morning walks and bringing newspapers up to neighbors' front doors; and running the gift shop at many Valley hospitals. It was at Maryvale Samaritan and Good Samaritan Hospitals where she was the Director of Volunteer Services. Evelyn was an active member and leader in her temples' sisterhoods and director boards, of B'nai Brith, of Soroptimist and at the Downtown Phoenix YMCA. All around the Valley, Evelyn was known as the "Cookie Lady." Each and every day, wherever she may have been volunteering, she would walk inside with a coffee tin filled with her famous chocolate chip cookies.
"I want to look back with pride - forward with joy for the future. No hesitation, just a well defined feeling that I've done my best." (from Evelyn's journal)
Evelyn's interests were vast. Lifelong education was important to her, and she proudly earned a Bachelor degree (while parenting 4 children) and Master degree (while loving numerous grandchildren) from Arizona State University. Evelyn and Ralph maintained a Jewish home. Her personal faith in Judaism was important to her, and attending Torah Study weekly filled her heart and mind. She was a voracious reader, consuming 100+ books each year in every imaginable genre. She was knowledgeable about and able to discuss issues that ran the gamut: global events, politics, science, culture, current affairs, and of course any conversation that had to do with her favorite sports teams (Go Cubbies! Go DBacks! Go Devils!) Evelyn loved to sing and dance, and undoubtedly was the life of any party.
Sadly, Evelyn's mind began to deteriorate in 2010 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Tragically, it was Covid-19 that took her dear life.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ralph, and her dear daughter Leslie Whitfield (Jerry), She is survived by her children Cindy Stine (Bill), Sharon Ronstadt (Carlos), and Gary Feffer (Kim), her brother Herb Sherman (Judee), her grandchildren Alison Stone, Ashley Stewart (Luke), Adam Fuller, Elliot Fuller (Gwen), Cecily Trihy (Mike), Sophie Feffer, Army Feffer, Davis Feffer, River Feffer, Jon Stine (Karen), Zach Ronstadt (Erin), Greg Ronstadt, Tristen Vance, and great-grandchildren Jameson, Amelia, Stone, Sienna, Nathan and Warren.
To honor Evelyn, the family suggests contributions to Hospice of the Valley Sherman Home, (https://www.hov.org/); City of Hope (https://www.cityof

I had the honor of working with Evelyn throughout my years in non-profits and then as she was a volunteer of mine at HonorHealth. What a bright, fun, and feisty lady. May her memory be a blessing.
