August 27, 1946 – June 9, 2021
Joy passed peacefully on June 9, 2021, in the presence of her husband, daughter and pastor. Born August 27, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Joy grew up in Colorado Springs CO. Joy was a strong Christian, supportive coaches' wife, mom, and nana to her three grandchildren. Her family consists of, husband Ron, daughter Nicole, Oldest granddaughter Kylee, Middle granddaughter Bailee, and youngest granddaughter Kamee. Joy's favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, watching many sporting events, and vacationing in Anna Maria Island Florida. Joy Graduated from Roy J. Wasson High School in 1964 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree at the University of Northern Colorado. She started her teaching career as an Elementary teacher at Howbert in 1968. Her love for kids and teaching has had a positive impact for numerous youths in the Colorado Springs area. Funeral service will be held on June 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM, First Presbyterian Church, 219 Bijou St., Colorado Springs, CO. In lieu of flowers, please honor Joy by donating to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org.

Dear Ron and family, I wanted to tell you that Malcolm and I have the fondest memories of Joy. We often talked of our visit here with you and in Colorado SPrings. It was a grand time to get to know Joy. And of course forever grateful bring a second mom to Katie while she lived with you. She was the sweetest , kindest and an extraordinary lady. In the coaching fraternity one gets to meet a lot of wonderful and special people. Ron’s wife Joy was one of those, and her kind and gentle soul was always on display whenever she was present. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Ron, Nicole and all those whose life she touched throughout the years.

Mrs. Nighswonger was my husband's and my first grade teacher at Howbert in 1972-1973. I remember her being so nice and sweet and pretty. I have thought of her often over the years and had no idea she was still in Colorado Springs. My condolences to her family, she was a wonderful teacher to me.
