Fay passed away comfortably at her home in Colorado Springs, at the age of 83.
She was born in St George's Island, MD, one of five children, to Myrtle Poe and James Alvin Russell. She married Wallace J Lumpkins in 1959. His career in the Air Force initially took them to Spain, where Fay's love of travel and interest in other cultures blossomed. Later assignments were in Texas, Italy and Quebec, and they eventually settled in Colorado Springs.
Fay was an educator at heart. She spent her career as an elementary school teacher (primarily 4th and 5th grade) in District 11. Not interested in being fully retired, she continued teaching ESL classes at Our Lady of Guadalupe for numerous years. Some of her greatest memories involved field trips and extracurricular activities with her students of all ages.
She was an avid traveller, reader, collector of ornamental frogs and a Life Master bridge player. Above all, she was a fabulous role model for Kelly and Casey, her two granddaughters; they were her pride and joy!
She will be remembered by countless friends, neighbors and family members for her endless curiosity, generosity and kindness. She will be terribly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Horgan, and her granddaughters, Kelly Telatovich and Casey Horgan.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at St Paul's UMC, 2111 Carlton Ave, in Colorado Springs, on Friday, March 31 at 11:00. Donations can be made in her memory to the Tesla School through stpaulscs.org.

I have always told my wife and Kids about Mrs. Lumpkins. She holds a special place in my heart and beautiful memories from a military childhood. The ONLY teacher I remember by name. To me, she lives on everytime I see Mrs. Frizzel and the Magic School Bus. I still believe it was made as tribute to her. I am now 53 years old and have warm heart felt feelings everytime I think of her.

Mrs. Lumpkins was one of if not my all time favorite teacher ever!! She meant the world to me and i am just now finding out that she has passed. I'm so sad to hear this news!! For those of you that knew her and visited her, she had a picture of a student sitting on one of her credenza's in a skating outfit on the ice...well that was me!! She referred to me as her little skater!! She came to see me all the time while I was competing. She was my biggest fan!! I loved her so much!! And as I grew up, moved away, and then came back to Colorado, I looked her up and brought my daughter to meet her. She was so thrilled to meet her and my daughter loved her just like I did!! We had become friends on Facebook and would send cute messages from time to time!! I'm going to miss her!! She made such a difference in my life as a teacher and as someone that believed in me!! She was such a blessing!! I'll never forget her!! My heart goes out to Debbie and her family!! Feel free to reach out any time!!

Over the last few months, I didn´t get to see my favorite Flumpkins as she was so tired. I did however, manage to send her little frog memes anytime I could. I will miss her more than little words can ever convey to such a beautiful soul. Thankful to have had her in my life for the time that I did. I love you, Flumpkins. Thank you for your advice and love. I´ll miss you all the days.
