Florence Buehrig Obituary

Florence Ann Buehrig, devote Christian woman, loving wife, mother and grandmother went home to live with her Heavenly Father on January 11, 2010. She entered the hospital a week previously with optimism, looking forward surgery that would allow her to enjoy her 70th birthday in Aruba. While the surgery was successful, for reasons only known to the Lord, our precious wife and mother stopped breathing and was unable to be revived. Our loss is deep and our sorrow is great. Florence was born to Stuart and Marguerite Anderson on February 25, 1940 in Buffalo, New York. After graduating from Monmouth College (Illinois), she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Buehrig, an Air Force Lieutenant. Together they raised three beautiful children, and at times lived as a family in New Mexico, Maine, Texas, Missouri, California and Colorado. Many years were spent in Saratoga, CA (1975 - 1988) and the last 22 years in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Florence touched the lives of so many with her unstoppable giving nature and vibrant spirit. She was a consummate Volunteer, and gave countless hours to the church, the Red Cross and to other programs for seniors, such as driving for Silver Key. Dedicated to her children's education, she volunteered in their classrooms. She shared her adventurous spirit and knowledge of the outdoors as a Girl Scout leader. Florence's positive attitude, courageous spirit and dedication to Jesus Christ brought happiness, comfort and love into the lives of everyone she met. One of her favorite things to do was camping, especially at Yosemite National Park. Just this past Thanksgiving, the entire family gathered there for a joyous and memorable reunion. Florence is survived by her husband, Richard Buehrig (Lt. Col. US Air Force Ret) of Colorado Springs, daughter Diane (Andy) Schnoebelen of Escondido, CA., daughter Karen Buehrig of Oregon City, OR., and Phillip (Sharon) Buehrig of Santa Cruz, CA., seven grandchildren, her father Stuart Anderson, brother David Anderson, sister Mary Niederlander and sister Carol Hixenbaugh. A memorial service will be held 11 am on Friday, January 22nd at First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, 219 East Bijou St. Colorado Springs, CO with a burial in Buffalo, New York - where it all began. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Red Cross, First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs, Silver Key or even just volunteer to help someone in need.

My name is Audrey Trimble Selig, and I knew Flo and Dick from church in Buffalo, New York many years ago. I will never forget them and learned of Flo's passing from the Monmouth College news. May the family find comfort in the Lord. I am glad that I found this book as I have many memories - good ones - of Flo and Dick. I may try to contact someone in the family.

I was honored to work with this lady at the Evans Army Hospital. She rendered her services to our lab from time to time and was a wonderful lady.
She will be missed. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Flo will be deeply missed by her colleagues at Silver Key, where she devoted her time to assisting the elderly in getting to medical appointments, food stores, hospitals etc. She was a caring person to many strangers and served as a volunteer driver for a number of years. She was a lady among mostly male drivers and held her own.She was highly respected by all and will be greatly missed, especially on Wednesdays, which was Flo's day at Silver Key. We offer our deepest sympathy to Richard and the family and our prayers for the repose of her soul. Bill Roche, Volunteer Driver, Silver Key

Richard, I was so shocked to hear of Flo's passing. I have been thinking of her, as she said she was having surgery in January. I was about to send her a get well card. She was a dear friend at Monmouth and I will miss her very much. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Richard & family. I was saddened to hear about losing Flo. She was definitely one of a kind! I treasure her as a friend & colleague and enjoyed every minute we shared at Evans while I was assigned there with the Red Cross. Her family meant everything to her & we were privileged to enjoy her grandchildren's exploits & accomplishments & visits when they came to see grandma & grandpa. Her smile, her graciousness, her caring, her willingness, her creative abilities left us with a ton of warm fuzzies -- especially when she made everyone's birthday something special! May your emptiness be filled with the profound memories of a very, very special lady!
