Florence May (Bracher) Hensley met her Savior face to face on September 20, 2025. Flo, as she was known to family and friends, was born on October 9, 1928, in London, England.
Flo was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Beatrice and Herbert Hollamby, who raised her; her adoptive sister and brother-in-law, Amelia and Rex Seymour; her son-in-law, James Gable; her great-granddaughter, Farah Spangler; and her beloved husband of 68 years, Carl Hensley.
Flo is survived by her niece Ann Beet (Patrick); her children, Sharon Baker (Larry); Denise McKinney (Rick); Michael Hensley (Christa); Donna Gable, Janet Jenks (Maurice); and Lorna Scott (Craig). She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
Flo lived a very colorful and eventful life, filled with challenges that she overcame with her fun-loving, resilient, and courageous spirit. By the time she was 11 years old, WWII had begun and would serve as the backdrop of her life for the next 6 years. Even in the hardest of times, her family and friends depended on the gift of laughter, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Flo began work as a young teen, often bluffing her way into various jobs until she could master their necessary tasks. At one time, she worked for the government, making maps for use in the war.
In 1951, a friend introduced Flo to a handsome American G.I.; love soon bloomed, and on December 22, 1952, they were married. Carl's career in the U.S. Air Force meant a life of travel and adventure for them and their 6 children. They moved often, living in 3 different countries and making excursions in and around each of them.
While Carl was the breadwinner, Flo was busy as the home maker; she loved being a wife and mother and made the most of her gifts of creativity and understanding of a child's heart to give her children a loving, nurtured life, filled with laughter and wonderful memories, all while providing the perfect balance between mother and wife.
Flo came to know Jesus as her Savior in her late 30s and spent the remainder of her life pursuing a close relationship with Him. Well into her 80s, she could always be found in a room full of children every Sunday, sharing stories of Jesus and His love. She and Carl were both faithful in their witness for Christ.
There is so much more to be said about Flo, but the one thing she would want us to share is the message of salvation as recorded in Romans 10:9:
"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved."
For now, we can rejoice in the knowledge that we who have received the gift of salvation will meet again in Glory one day, where we will spend eternity with our loved ones in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Celebration of life will be held at Calvary Fellowship Fountain Valley, 4945 Cable Lane, CO Springs, CO on Friday, October 3 at 10:00 A.M.
