Florence Hidy Obituary

Florence Marion Hidy passed away on March 2, 2009. She had been a resident of Colorado Springs for the past 27 years. She and her husband and family had also resided in Colorado Springs in the 1950’s. She was born on October 14, 1904 to Daniel Prue Phelps and Nina Lulu Kinkead Phelps in Sarpy County, Nebraska. They lived on the historic farm of Count Creighton. This man later founded Creighton College. Florence graduated from Clinton High School in Nebraska in 1923 and also graduated from Weldona High School in Colorado in 1924 in order to have the required credits to enroll in the Nurses Training School of Greeley College. She earned her Nurses Degree on September 1, 1927. She married Harold Lemar Hidy on February 28, 1928 in Greeley, Colorado. Besides being a nurse, Florence was also the bookkeeper for the H.L. Hidy Plumbing Co. in Steamboat Springs, CO. and other places they lived through their 52 years together. Florence is survived by a son, James (Lavonne); daughters, Verna Atkinson (John) and Margaret Peterson-Fulcher; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews and their respective families. Preceding her in death were her parents; her beloved husband, Harold; young son, Charles; two brothers and three sisters. A family Graveside Service will be held at 2 P.M., Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Lakeview Cemetery, Windsor, Colorado. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Black Forest Lutheran Church, 12455 Black Forest Road, Colorado Springs. Lunch will be served at the church following the service. Florence requested that in lieu of flowers her friends and family make memorial contributions to the Colorado School for the Blind or Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care.
