Floyd Devitt Obituary

September 20, 1966-February 8, 2008. Floyd was born in Colorado Springs and attended Falcon District 49 from Kindergarten through graduation. He is survived by his parents Jolene and Floyd Devitt, Sister Jan, niece Janelle and nephews John and Mark Kienast. He also has Aunts, Uncles and Cousins living in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Michigan and Washington. Floyd served in the US Air Force a short time, and worked for various companies over the years. He loved his friends and was sorry if he hurt anyone along his life's journey. He was loving, sensitive and a protective person who will be greatly missed by family and his good friend Jacque Thompson. God always seemed closer in the Mountains of Colorado fishing with his Granddad Ader. He is now safely home with his Father in Heaven. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents Lawrence and Josephine Ader of Colorado Springs, and Grandparents Floyd and Eva Devitt of Cadillac, Michigan. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church Chapel at 10am, Friday February 14, 2008.

Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and suffering is over
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And he came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread
And with Jesus' arm to lean on
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's will.

There is still work waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is completed,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

I have endless fond memories of Floyd. Although I had not been in touch with him since our Falcon days, I have very vivid memories of his bright smile and natural charm. He wasn't the type of guy you forget.

Dear family and friends of Floyd. I am a neighbor and friend of Jacque's. I knew Floyd for only a short time. I enjoyed talking football with him. We are both Steeler fans. I admired him for the way he took care of my friend Jacque. I offer my sympathy to all who are saddened by this untimely loss. My prayers are with you all.
