Francis Maher Obituary
Francis Martin Maher was born on October 10, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Martin and Margaret Monahan Maher. He attended grade school and high school at St. Mel in Illinois and attended the Quigley Seminary in Chicago and St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. His final seminary studies were at St. Mary's in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was ordained on May 1, 1954 at the Cathedral in Joliet, Illinois by Bishop Martin McNamara.
Father Frank then served in the following parishes: Immaculate Conception in Elmhurst, Illinois from 1954-1958; St. Mary in West Chicago, Illinois from 1958-1962; Marinton and L'Erable from 1962-1966; St. Charles Parish in Bensenville, Illinois from 1966-1968; Assumption in Ashkum, Illinois from 1968-1980; Paxton and Loda from 1980-1986; St. Edmund in Watseka, Illinois from 1986- 1991; St. Rose in Wilmington, Illinois from 1991-1998; and in his retirement years since 1998 to the present: St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colorado Springs

He is survived by his cousins: Judy Swanson, Maureen Rogus, Debbie Jacobs, Kathleen St. Onge, John "Jack" Termini, William Klorig, a host of extended family, his adopted family: The Randy Brundgardt Family of Colorado Springs, and all of his wonderful friends in Colorado Springs.
He was preceded in death by his sister: Margaret Maher; his uncle: Joseph Monahan and his cousins: Valerie Haga and Fr. John Monahan and his dear friend of over 40 years: Lu Gbur.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 S. Corona Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado. A Vigil Service and Rosary will then be said at 7 pm.
The Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 am on Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the The Most Reverend Michael J. Sheridan, officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
A Luncheon Reception will follow the committal services back at the St. Joseph Parish Hall.
Memorials in his name may be made to The Fr. Francis Maher Educational Center at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

I was Father Maher's Deacon for the whole time Frank was at St Edmunds in Watseka. We became very good friends. Frank was probably one of the most spiritual priest I have ever known. He and his cousin Father John Monahan were more like brothers than cousins. He took it very hard when Father John died in an accident. He would often come over to my house and we would have a wonderful time together. Being my parish priest Frank vested me at my ordination. I must have been his first Deacon at any of his parishes. When it came time to assist me in putting on my Dalmatic, he put it on me backwards. We laughed about that for many years. A true friend and spiritual guide. I miss him dearly but I know where he and John are. May God bless you Franklin.

Gentle brother - I cherish each memory of our days in ministry together at St. Joseph. You joyfully preached the Gospel to us by your very life, and in your gentle way taught us all what it was to truly love the Lord.
