Frank Ligon Day, Called "Zuke" by family and friends, passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2021. Frank was born to Walter Emerson and Emma Stewart "Studie" Day on May 21, 1933, in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. He graduated from West Point in 1956 and was commissioned a Lieutenant in the Regular Army. Soon after graduation, he married Lucy Lee Anderson. They had three sons Peter, Michael and Todd. Frank distinguished himself in the military as an Armor Officer with two tours in Vietnam and various duty stations around the world, including Germany and Japan. The awards for his service include the Silver Star, the Defense Superior Service medal. The Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, and the Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure (Third Class).

Frank retired from the Army in 1985 as a Colonel. He then worked for the National Lab in Los Alamos, New Mexico. From there he and Lucy formally retired to Albuquerque and later moved to Colorado Springs. Frank and Lucy were married nearly 65 years. Their marriage was filled with love and friendship. They were a dynamic team who enjoyed traveling, camping, hiking and volunteering with the Red Cross in Albuquerque.

Frank was a servant of God, his family and our nation. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and served as a father figure to his brother-in-law John Anderson and as a grandfather to other members of the extended family. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all. Frank is proceeded in death by his son Peter L. Day and is survived by his wife Lucy: his sons Michael C. Day (Cindy) Todd E. Day (Patricia); and his grandchildren Claire Day Nelson, Courtney Day Bear, Emily Day Mike, Zachary S. Day, Chase C. Day, and Chandler L. Day. He was fortunate to have known five of his great grandchildren and knew two great grandchildren on the way. Frank will be interred at Pikes Peak National Cemetery later this year with a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please send donation to Chapel of Our Savior on Fourth Street in Colorado Springs or Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care.
