Lt. Col. Frank B. Holt obituary

Frank Holt Obituary

Frank "Buster" Holt, a much loved brother, husband, father and papa, passed away on 19 August 2014, at the age of 67. He will be deeply missed. Frank was born January 14, 1947 into an Army family in Hillsborogh, Florida and traveled to Germany as a boy where he must've gotten a bug to travel as he enjoyed it quite a bit as an adult. Frank did AFROTC at Southern Illinois University before marrying the love of his life, Kay Funk, and starting his 23 year career in the Air Force as a meteorologist in the Air Weather Service. He was stationed in Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Canada and Colorado. He was commander of the solar observatory in Exmouth, Western Australia, where he learned one of his favorite sayings, 'G'day Mate!' along with diving in the amazing clear waters. After returning from Down Under, he became commander of all Air Force solar observatories around the world.

From camping trips to coaching soccer teams, Frank loved spending time with family. He was an ardent fan of his grandkids' sports as well. He was a season ticket holder to the USAFA Falcons football games and loved tailgating with his friends.

He worked for ARINC and MANTECH after retiring from the Air Force where his work brought him into missile defense. He traveled extensively for work in this area and spent much time in Israel. He found much pleasure when his wife and family could spend time in Kauai. Frank enjoyed golfing and was an avid early morning jogger. He also enjoyed microbrews and was quite the wine connoisseur. Frank's sense of humor is what made him unforgettable.

He will be missed dearly by his wife, Kay Holt, brother Steve Holt (wife Julie), sister Karla Holt, daughters Kim Braun (husband Steve) and Alyssa McCluskey (husband Mark) and grandchildren Parker Braun, Mackenzie McCluskey and Jameson McCluskey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sara and Frank Holt and his sister, Kay Holt.

Services will be held at the Church of Woodmoor, 18125 Furrow Rd, Monument, CO on September 6th at 10am. A military interment will be held September 8th at Ft Logan National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) or The Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).

Dad - some moments I smile, often I cry, and many times I laugh out loud remembering what an amazing father and just cool guy you will always be. I love that when your grandkids talk about you they always have funny stories - such a wonderful impact you had on them. I miss you terribly and love you deeply.

Dear Kay and Family, we didn't know about Frank until we accidentally came across the obituary on-line while looking for another. SHOCK and Sadness! Bob worked with Frank at the old Chidlaw Building and was always impressed with him and his total personality. He was a friend the short time they worked together. Kay, we continued to see you at Calvary UMC preschool and were always glad to catch up on things. Our prayers and thought will be with you and all your family. Thanks for the memories.

Kay...I am so sorry for your loss. I sent a long email to you at [email protected], which is the address I got from Rob Horras. I hope you got it. The obituary is a real tribute to Frank's life as I knew it. He will be sorely missed by all and his memory will be in our hearts forever.
