Frank Hunter Obituary

Frank Gordon Hunter was a loving and devoted family man. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carmen Hunter, a Son, Frank Gordon Hunter Jr. and two Daughters, Kathleen Ann Harrison and Beverly Elaine Haley, 9 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was also very much loved by friends, those he worked for and those that worked for him.

Frank passed away on January 8, 2015 very peacefully as he slept next to the woman that he loved more than anything, his wife, Carmen. He was born in Lake City, Florida on January 22, 1929 to his parents, Lon Gordon Hunter and Ida Mae Hunter.

Frank was raised on a farm in Northern Florida until he joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1946, shortly before it became the United States Air Force. His proficiency in Aircraft Maintenance advanced him to the top rank of Chief Master Sergeant in just 15 years. He retired from the military after 28 ½ years. Shortly after retirement he was contacted by Doss Aviation to employ his expertise with their company. In the 32 years with Doss, he climbed the ladder from Assistant Manager to President/CEO and part owner of the company taking Doss Aviation from the small business category to an international corporation. His brilliant, easy going management style earned him the love and respect of all that he worked with.

In celebration of his life, a rosary will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 5pm. A Viewing will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 9:30am with the Funeral Mass at 10am. Both honors will be held at the Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 4925 N. Carefree Cir, Colorado Springs, CO 80917. Military Honors will immediately follow the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, we request that a donation be made to the Holy Apostles Catholic Church.

It was with great sadness to hear that the great man Frank Hunter had passed away on to Heaven. We are blessed to have known and worked with him these last 35 years, and particularly all the great and funny emails he shared the last decade, many of them about his serious Christian beliefs. He was a real blessing to many. Aloha, my good friend. Alan & Carol Parrington, Colonel, USAF (ret)

My wife, Ann Marie, along with my retired business partner, Jean DeFries, express our deepest sympathies to you Carmen, and to the rest of your large and loving family, on the passing of this great man, Frank Hunter. We had the privilege and the pleasure of knowing and working with Frank for about 10 years; and knew him to be an humble, honest business man of the highest integrity and moral character. Since our retirements Frank and I have stayed in touch via email; with almost weekly exchanges of information and personal notes. I feel a deep and personal loss at the passing of this TRUE friend; and will honor and value that friendship for the rest of my life.

God bless you, Carmen, for being the shining light in Frank's eyes, and for being his steadfast standard bearer--both during his active-duty/retired Air Force days, as well as for his years in civilian leadership positions.

I know that God has a special place reserved for Frank, and, Carmen, I know that he has the adjacent space reserved for you. May God bless you and your family at this time, and into the future as you continue to travel life's roads with Frank's memories to guide you.

With our heartfelt thoughts, we offer our condolences.

Sending my condolences and thoughts to the family and friends of a sweet man. I have been friends of his daughter for some time and enjoyed hearing of her dear father. I would send kisses as I had lost my own father and knew how precious a dad is. Rest in peace dear man and watch over your family as they still wander this earth till they meet you again. xx
