Frank Saldi Obituary

Frank J. Saldi, 86, died peacefully in hospice care on April 27. He was born March 20, 1923, in Jamestown, NY, to Charles and Verna (Rizzo) Saldi, immigrants from Sicily. He was one of 12 children and his sister, Sadie, is now the only remaining sibling. He met his wife, Jean, in Peterborough, England, while stationed there during World War II. They would have been married 64 years on May 5. He is survived by his beloved “war bride and 2 children - Verna (Jim) Love and Sandra (Bob) Olson. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren - Cheryl Love, Patty (Dave) Bilberry, and David Love, and his beautiful great-grandchildren - Ryan, Emily and Sean Bilberry. He also leaves behind the children and grandchildren of his son-in-law, Bob Olson. Frank and his family relocated to Colorado Springs from Jamestown in 1954. He retired from Denver Equipment Company in 1985 after 31 years of faithful service as a welder. He enjoyed fishing and was usually the only one catching fish when they weren’t really biting! He loved occasional gambling and when on top of the hill over Cripple Creek, he would begin singing “Cripple Creeky, Cripple Cripple Creeky in sheer delight and anticipation! The family really appreciates the care given by the staff at Pikes Peak Hospice and in lieu of flowers, a donation to that great organization would be appreciated. Viewing will be Thursday, April 30, from 5-8 p.m. at Shrine of Remembrance. Services will be Friday, May 1, at 10:00 a.m. also at Shrine of Remembrance with entombment following.

Uncle Frank showed such great hospitality, shared his passion by taking me fishing, and shared such wonderful family stories during my visit with him on my way out to CA. My fond memories of him will stay with me always. For those that don't readily recognize the name below, I'm one of five of Louie Pulci's children.

NO friend has touched my heart like Frankie. Our bond grew through the years and our common Italian heritage helped us feel even closer. He would call me "His son" ; the one he never had, and I looked at him as the kind of Dad I always wanted. We were there for each other , the way Christ would have us ALL be toward each other. To the neighborhood children he was a grandfather, and to others he was a true friend who gave loving wisdom and guidance, often in the form of a very funny story he created in the moment ! One thing we ALL have in common ..... We all Loved Him !!

Your warm, gentle smile and contagious laugh will remain in the hearts of those who love you. You were a fantastic story teller; I will always cherish the times we spent together drinking tea, eating cookies and listening to your stories. My favorite story is the one you told about the day you first met Jeannie. May memories bring comfort to your family. You are loved, Frankie!

Papa was a part of my life for more years than I care to mention. He touched my life with his overall kindness and ability to make me smile. He always had a story to tell and I always had the time to listen. As I grew up and had children of my own, I watched Papa tell them the same stories he told me as child. His stories were bigger than life just as he was. Papa will be deeply missed but always remembered! Love the Emerson Family, Dan, Jen, Chase and Chelsea.
