Frank Usery Obituary

Frank Usery
June 29, 1924 - November 16, 2013

Frank Usery ascended into the new world on November 16, 2013.
Franklin "Frank" Paul Usery was born on June 29, 1924, to Ferdinand and Nellie Usery on his family's homestead on Tow Creek, outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He was the fourth of six boys, all of who preceded him in death, Charles, Ferd, Bill, Mike and Raymond. He was looking forward to reuniting with his beloved family members.
Frank served his country from August, 1943 to October, 1947 in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a Staff Sergeant and tail gunner in a B17 Bomber. Frank was part of the 15th A.F. 325th Bomb Squadron. He flew ten combat sorties, mostly over Germany.
At the end of the war, he returned to Colorado and went to work for Chevron Oil Company in Rangely. He retired in 1985, and moved to Grand Junction, CO after working 40 and one half years.
He met a "friendly little gal", Anita "Tiny" Osborn, in Rangely and they were married in May of 1947. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage. Anita preceded him in death in October of 2009.
Frank's life was centered around his family, nature and God. He enjoyed spending time with his six surviving children, Burt (Lorna) Usery of Greeley, CO; Spencer (Kim) Usery of Grand Junction, CO; Paula (Walter) Spetter of Grand Junction, CO; Catherine Sheridan of Grand Junction, CO; Michelle (Chris) Huber of Rangely, CO, and Alisa (Jeff) Hill of Wichita Falls, TX. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren.
Frank enjoyed spending time gardening, doing yard work, fishing, hunting, picnicking and just being in the beautiful Colorado Mountains. He was known for his lively sense of humor and never passed up an opportunity to pull a prank on his loved ones or friends. He enjoyed the uncomplicated things in life and taught those around him to take delight in the simple pleasures of life.
His grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew he would always have ice cream when they came to visit. Frank would relish in his time with the little ones, holding them, reading to them and coloring with them. He was a very patient man who valued honesty, hard work, promptness, family and his Catholic faith. He lived life to its fullest and was never one to let the hectic world rattle him.
The last few months of Frank's life were spent at the Rangely District Hospital, Long Term Care Unit where he enjoyed having company and the staff that took such wonderful care of him. He was known for his witty personality, cheerful demeanor and wonderful voice as he sang in the halls and in his room.
A Rosary will be held at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction, CO at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday November 20, 2013, and a Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to St Ignatius Catholic Church in Rangely, CO.
