Franklin Moore Obituary

Our beloved father and grandfather; Franklin R. Moore, Sr., passed away peacefully after being with his loving family. He left to be in Heaven with his late wife, Lois S. Moore, and his Lord Jesus Christ on October 10, 2012. Frank was the oldest of four children and is survived by his youngest sister, Marion. He is also survived by his children, Frank Jr. (and wife Holli Harper), Janet Moore, Kathy Moore and Sharon Moore Fontenot. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren and the joys of his life...Matthew, Calli, Emily and Zachary. Frank was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, where he grew up and finished high school. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943 where he was a navigator on B-29's in the Pacific. After returning from WWII, he met his wife Lois at Langley Field, Virginia and they married in 1948. Over the course of the next 8 years, he had the three of his oldest children in Virginia, Tennessee, and the Philippines, while serving in the Air Force. He, Lois, and the family settled in Colorado Springs in 1962 where he was stationed at Ent AFB. They had their youngest child in 1964 and then Frank retired in 1967. Frank went back to college in the fall of that year to obtain his teaching certificate from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He was a junior high school teacher at South Junior High School and Russell Junior High School and taught for 17 years before retiring. His interest in horses led him to raise and show paint horses and have a National champion as well as a Reserve National Champion in reining. He not only learned how to shoe a horse but went on to become an acclaimed Master Farrier as well as an instructor of the trade at Pikes Peak Community College, for over 20 years, before retiring. His love for horses and horse shoeing inspired him to become a welder. He not only made original sculptures out of horse shoes, but he also instructed welding classes in the community. He hosted art shows featuring his original works of art and led the trend of horse shoe sculptures. Frank has always been involved in the community of Colorado Springs, in politics, the military, School District 11, the Mystic Crew, the Fine Art Center, and the United Methodist Church to name a few. He was an active member at the Wilson United Methodist Church at the time of his passing. His other passions included traveling, socializing with family and friends, nature, and visits to the gym. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 1 pm at Wilson United Methodist Church, 6460 Flying W. Ranch Rd., Colorado Springs, CO 80919. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's name to the Wilson United Methodist Church.

I had Mr. Moore when I went to South Junior. I always thought he was such a nice and quiet man. I do remember him well. That was about 45 years ago and I can still see his smiling face! I am so sorry for your loss. Carol (Coca) Rice

My deepest sympathy to Sharon, Janet, Kathy and Frank. I only had the opportunity to meet your father once at Sharon's wedding. I just remember him being so happy for his youngest daughter to be getting married. I feel very fortunate that I was able to share in one of the many important moments in his life. I know he will be missed. My prayers are with all of you.

40 years ago I was Frank's student teacher at South Jr. I am still teaching and talking to students about Frank and him taking this city boy to his home to ride a horse. It hurt when I fell off. Thank G-d he told me to stick to teaching. I will miss him.
