Fred Packer Obituary

Fred M. Packer, beloved husband, dad, brother and grandfather, passed away on December 17, 2015. He was born in Lumberton, North Carolina. After graduating from Bladdenboro High School he enlisted in the United States Air Force.

In the United States Air Force, Fred served as a structural manager, aircraft structural maintenance journeyman, family support center super intent, structural journeyman. He completed his tour with the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant.

He was selected by 8th Army in Seoul, Korea to manage and coach a Far East Military All Star Baseball team that represented the United States of America in championship play in Honolulu, Hawaii and Sapporo, Japan. His team participated in tournaments that included national champions from throughout Asia to include the Peoples Republic of China. His command of international protocol and good sportsmanship represented the United States at the highest level. Fred served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1994.

Immediately after his tour was completed with the United States Air Force, Fred was employed by MCI World Communications. He rose from a telesales specialist with MCI to a Supervisor with T-Mobile Communications; he eventually became a Center and Operations manager with AT&T Communications. In 2006, the Area Manager for Santa Fe Protective Services called and asked him to supervise a start-up contract at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He accepted the challenge, resigning from AT&T, and taking the Contract Supervisory position. Fred and his team of 13 employees excelled in the contract business and were rewarded with a contract extension until 2013.

His memories lives on through his devoted wife, Hyon Chu Packer, loving son, Robert Packer, four beautiful grandkids, Alana, Brookelin, Keona and Greyson, daughter in law, Phana Packer. He loves family, international travel, golf and taking his dogs for a walks in the park.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, December 31st, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs CO 80918.

Knew Freddie most of my life. We grew up in the same little town of Bladenboro were everyone knew everyone. I am so sorry for your loss.

I wentto high school with Fred and Kent. Also served with him as his Chaplain at Suwon Air Base South Korea, 1988. He was an outstanding Chief Master Sergeant and a great person. RIP my friend. Prayers for the family. Steward and Kathy Smith, Goldsboro, N.C.
