Frederic Morath Obituary

Frederic Ramsell Morath, native and longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away in Natick, Massachusetts on June 5, 2009, after a brief illness. Mr. Morath is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Payne Morath; his children Stephen Morath (wife Noli, children Ingrid, Anna, Charles, and Greta) of Manitou; Martha Swanson (husband Jack, children Stephanie and Cassandra) of Quincy, Massachusetts; Ann Andreosatos (husband Nick, children Katherine and Alexander) also of Quincy; and Susan Morath Horner (husband Mike, children Grace and Fiona) of Boulder, Colorado; his brother Max Morath of Duluth, Minnesota; and Max's children, Kathy, Christy and Fred. Mr. Morath was born in Colorado Springs on December 21, 1923, to Frederic Palmer Morath, founder of the Adaman Club, and Gladys Ramsell Morath, onetime society editor at the Gazette. He married Elizabeth on March 9, 1953. Mr. Morath attended Colorado Springs High School, and later, Colorado College, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1948, followed by the University of Colorado at Boulder in furtherance of his Master's Degree in history. After working as a photographer and editor for the Fort Carson newspaper, the "Mountaineer", Mr. Morath worked in direct mail advertising for many years for Walter Drake & Sons of Colorado Springs. During the '60s, he also taught history as a lecturer at Colorado College. He relocated to the Boston area with his family in 1971 to work for Breck's of Boston, and later, for the H.E. Harris Company, and Dickenson Direct Marketing. In recent years he had founded his own consulting company, Fred Morath Direct. Mr. Morath was extremely well read, and greatly interested in researching family genealogy. He had been a longtime member of The Natick Shakespeare Club. He enjoyed playing the piano, and listening to classical music. He was a kind man who deeply loved his family. He had a sharp wit and a great natural sense of humor, and often amused his family and friends with his comments and observations. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Morath at 4 PM on July 29, 2009 at the Chapel of Our Savior, 4th Street and Polo Drive in the Broadmoor, with interment following in the Chapel of Our Savior columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colorado College.
