Frederick Cutter Obituary

A life well lived. Adventurous, professional, involved. These are apt descriptors of Fred Cutter, long-time resident of the greater Colorado Springs community and lately of Sun City, AZ. He passed away April 7 at the age of 79. The adventure started in New Jersey where Fred was involved in sports and life guarded on the beaches during the summer. After high school he joined the Navy and became an aerial photographer in the Combat Camera Group. The adventure continued when he met the love of his life, Lois E. Reinhart and they married in 1950. Together they had five children: Steve Cutter (Beth), Leslie Stejskal (Randy), Chris Maynard (Joel), and Greg Cutter of Colorado Springs, and Jeff Cutter of Yakima, Washington. They moved their family to western Wyoming in 1962 and to Colorado Springs in 1966. Retiring to Arizona in 1998, Fred and Lois loved traveling in their motorhome, seeing sights and visiting friends and family from coast to coast. Fred loved watching the sun rise over the ocean or set over the mountains. He and Lois delighted in their twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Fred entered the life insurance business in 1953 and dedicated himself to being the best advisor he could be. He earned Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations and was a charter member of the Estate Planning Council of Colorado Springs. He served in leadership for that organization as well as for local chapters of the Society for Financial Service Professionals and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He taught courses to younger insurance professionals through the Life Underwriter Training Council. Fred was also a Master Mason through the York Rite and the Scottish Rite, belonging to lodges in Pinedale, WY; Colorado Springs, CO; and Glendale, AZ. Fred liked to be involved. From participating in leadership programs at his local YMCA, to leading his sons’ Indian Guides and Cub Scout packs, to fighting structure and forest fires with the Pinedale, Wyoming volunteer fire department, to serving on the Manitou Springs City Council and School Board, Fred found a way to be a doer, not just a watcher. A long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, he had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Though he will be deeply missed by his wife, family and friends, we take comfort that Fred is now enjoying the first days of an eternity with Him. We look forward to seeing him again one day. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 13 at The Congregational Church of Sun City, 18401 N. 99th Avenue in Sun City, AZ, and in Colorado Springs at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or to Hospice Family Care, 9051 W. Kelton Lane, Suite 8, Peoria, AZ 85382.
