G. Harley Morey Obituary

Harley Morey, age 76, died peacefully at his home on July 7, 2016.

Harley was born to Octavia and Charles Morey on February 16, 1940, here in Colorado Springs. Harley attended Columbia Grade School, North Middle School, and graduated in 1958 from Colorado Springs High School. Harley joined the Army in October of 1958. He would serve until February 1962. During that time, he went to Camp Carson and then eventually would be stationed at the Nike Hercules Missile site and become an expert on the Army Rifle team in Nebraska.

After he served his country, Harley returned back to Colorado Springs to work in the transportation industry. Harley went to work for his Dad at Star Motor Freight; the company that he would eventually purchase and grow into a business lasting over 50 years. Some of Harley's contributions to the industry would include serving on various committees and eventually becoming Colorado Motor Carriers Association Chairman in 1987. He would assist in major legislative changes, and make efforts to keep drivers safer on the roads.

Harley was the first to say that he had an amazing life. His hobbies included, hunting, fishing, boating, motorcycles and ATV riding, hot air balloons, jeep and vintage racing, Corvettes, but his first love was flying. He had been a pilot since 1973. He believed that if you dreamed it, you could achieve it.

Harley is survived by his wife, Leann; his daughter Roxann Dearman and her husband Darrell, and his son, David as well as three grandsons; Trey Hart, Dalton Hart, and Colton Morey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Chasen Morey and his brother "Red" Morey.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel located at 4825 N. Academy Boulevard, Colorado Springs, CO 80918.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlin, SD or the charity of your choice.

So sorry to read of Harley's passing. We were classmates at CSHS- he was a funny, amiable and delightful guy! Saw him a couple of times at reunions, and it was always fun to chat and reminisce. Goodbye, old friend. Rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to your family.

Getting to know Harley has been a blessing to my life. His wisdom, experience and kindness set him above most men I know, but his heart, that was what really set Harley apart from others and made him such a respectable person. My life was blessed with his friendship and I will forever cherish my memories.
