Garfield Stokes, Jr.
December 24, 1938 - April 9, 2018
Garfield Stokes, Jr. passed away on April 9, 2018 at Memorial Hospital. Garfield was a dedicated military servant, having spent 27 years between the Army and the Army National Guard. Garfield was also a 20-plus year employee of the City of Colorado Springs as a civil engineer. He loved to read, travel, bowl, and play Sudoku, and chess.
Garfield was born in Baltimore, Maryland and is survived by his wife, Sinie Belle Stokes, whom he married in 1958. They had five children: Nanina Johnson (deceased), Mary Stokes, Romaine Jake, John Stokes, and Pamela Mend (deceased). Garfield is also survived by four grandchildren: Jaya Roberts, Jasmine Jake, Johnson Stokes, and Taylor Miller. Great-grandchildren include: Brennan Roberts, Davin Roberts, Brooklynn Santana, Trinity Roberts, Trust Stokes, Olivia Roberts, and Korea Stokes.
Garfield is also survived by his sister, Jean Davis of Baltimore, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Walker, and father, Garfield Stokes.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 with a funeral immediately following. Both the visitation and funeral will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Private entombment will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels.
